HP 35S Integration - lrdheat - 11-25-2023 05:04 AM

One thing I like about the HP 35S when I don’t have my Prime handy is that it can handle difficult integrations that are problematic accuracy-wise and time taken on other handhelds. By choosing a fix 2 display, I can often get a pretty accurate answer quickly that is hanging up other handhelds that do not offer a choice of epsilons (which, in effect, is chosen by the number of decimals shown in the fix display). Also, the 35S can deal with undefined points within the range to be integrated across. If the integration is quick, and I wish for accuracy to 3 or more digits, I can try a higher fix setting. Another nice HP practice is displaying a usually conservative estimate of the error bound in the answer. At fix 4, many results are accurate enough for the fractional display option to show a correct fraction result for an answer that would truly produce a fractional result on a CAS machine, fix 5 almost all of the time!
