If you plan to keep unit #2 un-opened as a collection-only item, you should open it, once, to remove the batteries, which come installed. Although the likelihood of CR2032 cells leaking is small, no need to take a chance when it is easily avoided. Maybe use gloves to avoid leaving fingerprints on any surface. And while removing the cells, sneak a peek at the serial number to find out if adjacent. I'm a very active student of WWII Luftwaffe planes and I find S/N 262 very cool. 109 or 190 would be a bit better, 335 or 219 better still, and 152 the best, but they are what they are... --Bob Prosperi |
