RE: Information please !
I don't recall the model calculator, but this was a publicity still released when the original BG was launched in 1978. Maren Jensen's character was one of the bridge crew (not a soldier) so this was more than likely intended to be some kind of instrument, rather than a gun. Though I've seen all the episodes (more than once - I watched an ep last night!), I don't recall ever seeing the dual-calculator device, but I may have been distracted by either the compelling acting or other things... well, by one of them.

Hello!

Here is a larger image: https://i.pinimg.com/originals/5b/9d/a9/...399f6b.jpg The thing on the belt is clearly not a calculator, either a prop or a an industrial keypad of some sort. The upper belt looks like an airline demo-belt to me (the kind used by flight attendants to show how to buckle and unbuckle) again with the airline logo taped over. And the "bullets" on the belt seem to be felt-tip pens. Very creative those B-movie prop makers :-) Regards Max NB: And the boots are Sidi "Full Bore" motocross boots from the mid 1970ies with the manufacturer name taped over. |

RE: Information please !
I'm not sure why she'd need two calculators on one leg. From a redundant systems point of view, it would make more sense to have one on each leg.

RE: Information please !
But it makes perfect sense from a '70s prop design point of view.
A couple of my favorites from that era are The Wirrn, a monster from a Tom Baker / Elisabeth Sladen Doctor Who episode, whose skin was made out of green-painted bubble wrap, and Raumpatrouille Orion, a wonderful Star-Trek-like German sci-fi show, where some of the spaceship's controls were upper parts of household electric flat-irons. Didn't notice these things at the time, but with the benefit of age and the merciless clarity of DVD transfers, all is revealed. |

RE: Information please !
That is a series and a character long forgotten. But the recollection brings back some fond memories of being in college and spending Sunday evening with another couple to watch BG, with freshly popped corn and freshly brewed coffee.
I had also forgotten the Athena character. As I recall, there was quite a lot of eye-candy in the show. If you haven't seen the prequel, Caprica, it is worth a watch. I have not watched the remake of BG, although it hit my radar again the other evening while I was browsing the Evil Empire website. I do admire Katee Sackhoff and that might make watching an episode or two of the remake worthwhile. Fun memories... thanks! |

The remake of BG is a far, FAR better show, with actual writing and acting, unlike the original. It is loosely the same broad plot, but nearly every detail is different, and IMHO, better. This is a dark, serious show that requires and deserves to be watched closely, paying attention to detail. Much to enjoy here, check it out! --Bob Prosperi |
