RE: New G2 Firmware 20200116 - Problems
I can confirm losing touchscreen after upgrading my G2 -> 20200116 on Win7 x64.

Upgraded the ConnKit: OK

Backup G2 unit: OK

Manually copied new G2 .zip file contents to C:\Users\Name\Documents\HP Connectivity Kit\Firmware

Ran Connkit - detected new f/w and offered to update - update completed OK, memory not lost, but G2 unit touchscreen not working with 20200116 f/w.

Upgraded my G1 unit following the same procedure: G1 unit touchscreen works with 20200116 f/w

Copied prior release G2 files back into C:\Users\Name\Documents\HP Connectivity Kit\Firmware

Started ConnKit, did f/w upgrade, upgrade completed: G2 unit touchscreen works with 20181016 f/w

I'd say there indeed is an issue with the new G2 image.

For folks that upgraded G2 -> 20200116 w/no Touchscreen loss, how was your procedure different from above? Was backup run first? Was memory retained thru the update? etc...

Out of curiosity (and if willing), if you format the G2 drive after your update does issue go away? Wondering if something might be influencing there...

(or does the touchscreen not even work in the "system" menu?)

Although on a Mac - the basic steps were the same; files went to analogous places on the Mac.

I am going to try Tim's reformat suggestion tomorrow; its late. I'll report back then

Upgraded the CK and VC 64-bit versions on Windows 10. Upgraded my G1 Primes with no issues. After upgrading my G2, the touchscreen did not work. Formatting the C: drive using CFO did not fix the issue. The touchscreen tests fail in the Diagnostics.

The Diagnostics "Version Info" option reports:

Data Version V14181
OS Version 2.1
PCB Version D
Touch IC FW Ver GT5688-516

After reverting to version 20181016, the touchscreen works.

RE: New G2 Firmware 20200116 - Problems
I just updated my G2 to the 20200116 firmware. As others have reported, the touch screen doesn't respond to touch. I've also tried to format the C drive. Makes to difference. Going back to the 20181016 firmware restores the touch screen's functionality. I'm on Windows 10 x64.

Edit: I tried the new firmware to see if the bug that I reported here has been fixed. The calculator is still unable to boot from cold or recover from a crash with the control systems app installed or restore a backup with the control systems app installed.

RE: New G2 Firmware 20200116 - Problems
I have the G1. I installed Connectivity Kit 2.1.14425 on my MacOS High Sierra MBP, then connected my Prime. It appears in the Connectivity Kit as expected, but if I choose Help > Check for Update, it says:

Invalid document

I click OK and the dialog beneath that says:

No updates are available

When I choose Help > Update Calculator, it says:

I then manually downloaded the firmware and unzipped the archive and placed all those files inside the /PrimeG1 directory, but to no avail.

I tried right-clicking on my Prime's name in the Connectivity Kit and then chose "Update firmware" but I get the same error dialog with URL as above.

Again, I have the G1 Prime, but nothing says this firmware is only for the G2, so I must assume it is for both the G1 and G2 calculators. Yet, I cannot update!

And no, the "Symb & ON" trick does NOT solve the problem!

Separately...

I downloaded the new Prime Emulator for MacOS, but on launch I get this error:

There are two different firmware packages.

The G1 firmware includes about 14 or 15 files, the largest of which are PRIME_APP.DAT, PRIME_MASTER.DAT and PRIME_OS.ROM. These are expanded from the zip archive HP_Prime_Calculator_Firmware_{DATE}.zip

The G2 firmware includes fewer files. The largest (and the only one sent to the calculator) is HPPrime_OS.img. These are contained in the archive called HP_Prime_Calculator_G2_Firmware_{DATE}.zip

While there is nothing to show which particular model the firmware files are intended for, the clue is in the .zip archive containing them.

Thank you for the reply, but I already linked to the exact firmware file I used, which more plainly is this one:

https://www.hpcalc.org/prime/pc/HP_Prime...200116.zip

As you can see, there is no "G2" in the file name. Yet my problems exist. I want to know how to solve those problems.

I also want to know how to make images in my posts in this forum be 50% smaller than they are. What IMG tag hack must I use to achieve that?

Maybe a stupid question...

I take it that /PrimeG1 was just a shortcut and that you do in fact mean your ~/Documents/HP Connectivity Kit/Firmware/PrimeG1 folder, right?

Also, when you unzip the .zip file that you downloaded, you get a folder with a bunch of files in it. It is indeed the files that you copied to that directory and not the folder containing those files?

Here is the exact contents of the ZIP file downloaded to my Mac:

[Image: Image%2525202020-01-18%252520at%25252011...2520PM.png]

And here are those files, unzipped and manually placed by me in the exact folder (note the path at the bottom of the window):

[Image: Image%2525202020-01-18%252520at%25252011...2520PM.png]

But here's the strange part. Note the date of PRIME_OS.ROM & PRIME_MASTER.DAT -- they are both from 2018. There are files dated Dec. 2019 and the rest are dated this month. Not sure if that is the root problem here, but as you can see, I know what I am doing. Yet the firmware update will not work on my G1 Prime. Indeed, as I said in my earlier post, I should be able to update via the Connectivity Kit without having to manually do any of this, yet the error dialogs I mentioned earlier exist. There is clearly a bug at work here that needs to be addressed by HP.

And there's the error.

Your CK is reporting being unable to find files in:

/Users/jdw/Documents [....]

Your Finder is showing the contents of:

/Users/jdw 1/Documents [...]

(or does the touchscreen not even work in the "system" menu?)

Here's an interesting observation: After I initially installed the OS, touch screen worked fine. I unplugged from the PC and it still worked fine. I closed the CK and plugged the calc back in to USB. No touch screen. I started the CK, touch screen again. I can't seem to reproduce this consistently, though, so maybe it's just a coincidence.

RE: New G2 Firmware 20200116 - Problems
I was able to manually download the update and successfully install the 20200116 firmware.

FWIW, I have:
1. A Mac running Mac OS 10.15.2
2. The latest Mac Connectivity Kit (Build: 2.1.14181 (2018 10 16))
3. Rev A Prime, and
4. Was able to successfully update the calculator, and
5. The touch screen works.

Process: I manually downloaded the update and replaced the contents of the Firmware/PrimeG1 folder with the contents of the update folder. I then ran the Mac Connectivity Kit and successfully updated the Prime.

What was weird was that the text at the top of the Update window stated 20200116 but the ID next to the progress bar at the bottom of the window was showing the previous official release ID 20181016.

Hope this information helps troubleshoot the problem!

That's because it's showing the firmware version of the calculator currently connected and being updated. Until the update is complete it'll show the previous version that is being replaced.

The G2 I have at home updated without any touch issues. After reading about the touch issues, I brought another G2 home from work today and this one did lose the touch screen after updating the firmware. I'll send the requested info in a PM, but what happened next might help others.

After updating I did the following
1) formatted as Tim suggested. Still no touch screen
2) reset (ON-C). Still no touch
3) reset again (ON-C). TOUCH WORKED
4) turned off and on. Touch not working again.
5) turned off and on again. TOUCH WORKED AGAIN

To test to see if this was repeatable, I reinstalled the firmware and once again lost the touch screen. This time I just turned it off/on and touch was back.

Not sure what all this means as far as the cause goes, but for those of you experiencing this issue, try resetting or turning off/on and see what happens.

Tim - and All,

FWIW - I re-flashed to the 20200116 F/W and did the CFO-Paperclip and checked the touchscreen test; which passed. I reformatted the C Drive and then reset (9).

All to no avail - no Touchscreen response. I also tried everything listed above in this post and nothing worked to return Touchscreen response.

Refreshing to the 20191120 Beta and will sit tight while you and the other Folks at HP try to figure out what's going on.

(01-18-2020 04:06 AM)rprosperi Wrote:  I can confirm losing touchscreen after upgrading my G2 -> 20200116 on Win7 x64.
....

Update:

I updated to 20200116 to try again, and again I lost touchscreen.

I powered on/off with/wihtout USB connected, did every manner of reset available and still no joy.

I next went into CFO diag area and reformatted C per Tim's suggestions.

The Diagnostics "Version Info" option reports:

DATA Version : V14425
OS Version : 2.1
PCB Version : D
Touch IC FW Ver : ilitek-00

[Note: these details appear to be quite different from Mark Hardman's machine info posted above, which also has the non-working touchscreen]

I then went to the diags and ran the tablet diagnostic. It displayed 'tablet diag' or something similar but it still would not respond to touch. ESC, ENTER, etc. would not exit tablet diag mode, so I pressed ON-SYMB to reset, which it did.

But since C was just wiped, it came on, with the (un)expected "Slide to Unlock" message, which of course cannot be done since the touchscreen is not working...

Yikes, I'm in Prime hell !!

So I reflashed back to 20181016 and then restored from my backup and now my G2 is working as before.

Request for folks with working touchscreen on G2 running 20200116 f/w:

Please got into the CFO diagnostics and report here the version info you see; perhaps there is a pattern such as all machines with digitizer from company XYZ work, while others do not, making it easier for Tim & Cyrille to locate and fix the problem.
