Happy anniversary, HP-25!
45 years ago – almost to the day – HP released the HP-25, the first programmable hand-held calculator for less than $200! No wonder it was a huge success.

What better way to commemorate the event than by releasing a simulation of this little gem?

And now, with the amazing technology available today, the HP-25 has the features you were missing back then. Like inserting and deleting steps with automatic address correction. Or subroutines. More steps. More registers. Looping. No missing comparisons. Dozens of additional functions. A program library. Even sound.

So, if your devices run iOS, head over to cuveesoft.ch/rpn25 and have a look.

And yes, it's still less than $200. In fact, it's less than a nice cup of coffee.

Cheers,
Willy Kunz

I want my Android RPN-25 CE...

Still hoping Android development becomes more interesting Willy, your emulators/simulators are cool. The simplicity of a 25 with lots of 'missing' features added back in looks sweet.

Well, sometimes you have to take sides, i.e.:

• RPN vs. Algebraic
• HP vs. TI
• Apple vs. IBM/Microsoft
• OSX vs. Windows
• iOS vs. Android

My preferences have always been on the left side (not in a very strict sense, though.)
Supporting all my apps on two platforms is simply more than I can swallow. It's hard enough to keep up with the ever-changing iOS.
So, sorry, no Android.

Willy

You took the wrong way at the third step.

Actually R$ 10,90 (~ US 2.00) buy at least two nice cups of coffee in my city. In a caffe here the suggested price is R$ 4.50, but you can pay just what you think it’s worth (people usually round up to 5.00). Apple Store wouldn’t accept more, so I paid R$ 10,90 only :-)
Thank you for yet another nice simulator!

Services and Big Iron (as they always did).
Last good thing from Apple was the //e. Now what, household appliances apart?

Hello!

As an Apple user for three decades I must confess that I have no idea what an "//e" could be.

Apart from that, the iPad has become a very trustworthy companion for nearly ten years (yes, it still works and runs on it's first battery) saving me lots of time and the world a dozen trees. No more books, newspapers, instructions manuals, maps, charts, business stuff ... on paper for me.

And their latest 16 inch MacBook Pro is high on my wishlist. Unfortunately I can't afford one.

Regards
Max

Three decades aren't enough: they were already rotten. :D

As a non-Apple user (apart from a couple of iPods) for four decades, even I know what a "//"e is. (It may be more familiar as a "IIe".)

I worked all summer before going off to college for that! It saw me through four years of math - and there's still one on my desk (well, an HP-25LP).

Happy birthday old friend!

Back to the subject at hand...

I just downloaded mine (RPN-25 CE). It’s great! I never had any complaints with GO-25, but this one brings it to a whole new level !

I started with TI/Algebraic (cheaper), changed to HP/RPN (better in every way).
Started with IBM/Microsoft Dos/Windows (initially not all that cheap!) and changed to Apple/OSX once it had a real OS. (Technically I started with Basic in ROM ...)
Tried both Android and iOS and chose iOS, initially because iOS didn't crash as much. Smile

And the HP-25 is great. I've acquired several "broken" ones, with the goal of installing Panamatik's HP-LP circuit, however they all worked after cleaning the battery contacts so no conversion.

Try CC41!

Apple 2
Apple II
Apple //
Apple ][
Apple 10 (binary)

Maybe we need a new thread, like Gene's 64, about how many different ways can you represent "two"?

RE: Happy anniversary, HP-25!
I never owned a HP-25 but for me the importance of this model is Peter Henrici's book Computational Analysis with the HP-25 Pocket Calculator which taught me much about numerical analysis and programming.

I ported most of Henrici's programs to the HP-21S I had. The 21S was a model of similar capability to the 25 with 10 registers (vs 8) and 99 program steps (vs 49). Though it was algebraic logic and so less efficient than RPN as too many of those 99 steps tended to get wasted on parenthesis.

Later I implemented Henrici's programs on a 42S which had a enough memory I could extend them and keep many of them on hand as a numerical library. That wonderful device helped get me through an MSc.

Today I have go25c on my Android phone but that is more for nostalgia, my main calculator is Thomas Okken's splendid Free42.

Happy Anniversary to the HP-25 indeed!

RE: Happy anniversary, HP-25!
My first calculator was an HP-25, given to me by my parents as a college graduation gift (July 1975). I used it intensively for over a year until the HP-67 came out, which I bought right away on a USAF 2nd Lieutenant's pay (roughly US$7k/year). My USAF assignment at the time was in El Segundo, California, barely an hour's drive from El Toro, California where my younger brother was. As he was fascinated by the '25, when I got my '67 I gave him the '25.

That's how Father Joe Horn got into this stuff. Still the best benefit having that fine little machine had!

May God have mercy on my soul! Smile

So many signals, so little bandwidth!
