Wow!
Thanks Didier!
Those photos should be given their own section of the MoHPC!

Thanks Didier!!!

This is exactly what I was looking for when I posted but as I hadn't seen this information anywhere else I wasn't sure anyone would have collated such detailed information about the cases as everyone focuses on the calculator and peripherals.

This definitely needs its own page somewhere :-)

And the plastic clamshell came in two different sizes.

Well worth an article, for future reference!

And don't forget the travel cases. There was one which was black with aluminum trim. It looked just like a Norelco electric razor case. There was another, plastic clamshell case that came in various shades of gray.

Thanks very much Didier, this is an amazing post to have so many cases notes, photos and details all in one place. Smile

I'm traveling but when I get back I have some small notes and possible additions and will likely send them to you to add here if useful, rather than adding another post 'down below' so the reader has to scroll around of go to new pages.

This post took a huge amount of time, effort and care to create, and I want to share my sincere thanks for all of that to create such an interesting and useful resource!

THANK YOU!

Brilliant work, Didier
Could you make a pdf document of all these cases?

The latest version of this list is now published as a pdf file in the article section of the forum. I've updated a few pictures and added a section for the Classic travel cases.

Were the brown soft case that were shipped with HP-91, HP-92 & HP-97 also shipped with the 82143 and 82162 Printers? I have purchased a couple of these e printers on eBay that came with cases like these. Maybe the cases were mistakenly matched with the printers?

I bought a 82143A new back in the 80s and it didn't come with a case (in Australia).

Thank you for this detailed post Didier, I now know that what I have is correct, was wondering about my 45-“jewel”-case, it looked so different.

I would agree, there were no pouch/case for those

As others have said, these printers definitely did not come with these, or any other cases. Many 97 (and possibly 91/92) owners used those machines as effectively permanent desktop calculators, freeing the case for use when the 41 "system" came out, more mobile and in many situations were used in labs, manufacturing, etc. where carrying the printer would be awkward without some kind of carry case.

I recall there were 3rd party cases for the 82143/82161/82162, but I would have to dig through EduCALC catalog pages to recall the specifics. I also saw several homemade 'cases', which were more like padded bags, and usually used to also carry the 41, HP-IL cables, power adapters, etc.

Thanks, I didn't notice that there was two versions of the travel safety case, but after checking my archives it appears that yours without the Hewlett-Packard reference was the earliest one. It will be in the next update of the pdf file.
For my information, what is the serial number of your HP-45?

You can stitch all pictures into a few big pictures with Photoshop!

Yes, but each thumb picture has a link to the bigger original picture, this would not work by stitching them in a few mosaic pictures.

RE: definitive list of cases for each model calculator
I actually don’t remember seeing, either in the wild or any brochures I have, the -67 being sold with the original -65 “kangaroo” case. 67s IIIRC were sold in what I usually refer to as a “camera case.” I think these cases originated in the “classic” line with the -55.-kby

Unless you bought the model new it's hard to know exactly which cases go with which calculators and I'm guessing there may have been a few options for some models.

Is there a definitive list of calculator models and their cases?

I've had a look through the museum articles and you can see a some of the cases but can't tell for sure which are the same (similar colour but are they the same size etc).

For example:
- are the cases for the 35, 80 and 45 the same and what does it look like?
- are all Classic cases (except the 67) the same?
- are all Woodstock cases the same?
- are all Spice cases the same?

I have lots of calculators and cases I have acquired and some are different for the same series so I'd love to know if they are correct alternative options or have just come in whatever case someone could find.

TIA, dmh

Congratulations!!! huge effort!

Going deeper, may I propose to clarify the HP41 series case versions...there are a few, depending on the calculator model, and time. The differences are in the stamped HP logo and the zipper.

Again: great work! congratulations.

Ignacio

Sure, please share here your observations and pictures. I didn't notice any specific differences, for me the HP41 cases look all the same.

From memory alone, the HP-55 had a different coloured case, and a different surface texture than the HP-67 case, although tge case design was the same. The HP-55 case was a darker, greenish rougher grained case, while the HP-67 had the lighter, tan coloured case with various random darker streaks, and was smoother grained. I think the same HP-67 outer colour was carried forward for many years going forward. It was on the HP-2X, HP-9X, and HP-41 lines at least.
