Card reader gummy wheels
Hi all.

Given the fact that they wear out and decay along with becoming melted and sticky, was there a durable and longer lasting resource, perhaps metals, that could be used to design the wheels instead? Yeah, using metallic alternatives has its own drawbacks such as oxidation.

Hello!

Since many many many years sticky gummy wheels are being replaced with common off-the-shelf O-rings usually made of poybutadiene. They will probably outlast every other component of the calculator (and it's owner) while costing only a few cents (either Euro or Dollar) a piece.
Replacing the gummy wheels with metal is probably not a good idea because this will put a lot of wear on the cards, which, as you write in another thread, are on very short supply.

Regards
Max

At least there’s another option.
