16c overlay in TheCalculatorStore
Hello

While browsing the store I noticed the overlay some might want to use with their new 15c CE:
https://www.thecalculatorstore.com/epage.../HP16cover

Do not overlook the possible discount.

Cheers

RE: 16c overlay in TheCalculatorStore
Hi,

it is now in production in Hong Kong and scheduled for delivery before month end - we have sent prototypes to some users already. We want it to be used by our HP15c customers - hence the discount.

It looks something like this:

Preparing it...it will be a code related to your order, to be entered at checkout. I need to build it in the website.

I have one and it's absolutely outstanding, very well made and very convincing, it fits the 15C CE perfectly and the resulting combo totally looks like the real thing. Recommended ! Smile

Hello Valentin, thanks for the advice.
With the DEC bug (cf. other thread), is it worth buying it?
If you had one for testing, did you only use it in HEX/OCT/BIN mode and avoided the bug?

RE: 16c overlay in TheCalculatorStore
Really a nice addon, the overlay. Unfortuantelly I ordered the calculator before the discount ;(
Sorry, but $60 is much too much to order too late. Is there a possibility to get a nice picture to cut a Silhouette template?

The issue is with the display results of certain numbers in DEC mode; internally the values are correct. These numbers are known, unless further disclosed, operations with these numbers are working correctly, as far as I have tried. For instance, the problematic number 1E (HEX) is 30 (DEC); in DEC mode it appears as 24, 10 [+], on the screen 40, subtract 10 mentally...
There is one group of problematic numbers that, when converted to the floating-point decimal mode, yields incorrect results, which is concerning.

RE: 16c overlay in TheCalculatorStore
Apologies for the noob question, but how are folks turning their 12c's into 16c's? Do you have to scavenge a proper 16c board, or are there other conversion kits? Did a bit of searching after finding this thread but didn't see anything come up.

Thanks!

It's not the 12C, it is the very new 15C Collector's Edition. As a NOMAS (NOn MAnufacturer Supported) feature, It has a secret menu that can select between two different memory sizes for the 15C, or the 16C. You can find more information about it in these forums. Because it's NOMAS, please don't ask HP, Moravia, or Royal about it.

Technically the new 15C CE firmware, with the NOMAS features, can run on post-2015 HP-12C calculators, but as there is no hex file of the firmware publicly available, it's not a practical option.

Note that the NOMAS 16C functionality has some fairly serious issues, also being discussed in these forums. Again, please do not ask HP, Moravia, or Royal about these issues. The only source for information about NOMAS features is the user community. It is presently unknown whether the 16C issues will ever be resolved, or in what form a resolution might be made available.

It's not the 12c, recently a new 15c Collectors Edition was released. This model is based on the current 12c hardware, with a different key layout and background.

The 15c comes with two additional hidden modes, a 15c with extended memory, and a 16c.

The genius-level answers have already been posted. I'll address your question at a more basic level. The picture on the website used a 12C as a model for the overlay. That's the misleading part, as the only unit with the selectable firmware is on the 15C CE. Divasson might want to put a new picture up depicting the right calculator wearing the overlay.

Another "genius-level" answer for you: Divasson used that image of a 12C because at the time no physical 15C CE was available to the team involved with it, and for testing and other purposes the HP-15C CE's firmware (with the embedded HP-16C ROM inside) was uploaded to a physical 12C (same CPU), which then could be (and actually was) used as ersatz CE/96, CE/192 and 16C modes, that's why the 12C picture with the 16C overlay on it, it wasn't a mere model for taking the pic but actually fully functional.

So in the end, technically speaking it's quite possible to turn a current 12C into a 15C CE with embedded 16C, as it's actually been done already. "Been there, done that."

RE: 16c overlay in TheCalculatorStore
Hello,

just tried it out - ordering the overlay with the discount code (75% !) for previous customers works just fine even if ordered separately from the calculator.

Looking forward to see it work - the HP-16C is one of the very few calculators still missing from my collection so this will be the closest approximation to the real thing.

Regards
Max

RE: 16c overlay in TheCalculatorStore
Just tried the link in 1st comment.

"The page requested is not available."

Did a site search for "overlay" and found nothing but 41-C keyboard overlays.
This product seems to have vanished.
