Not sure if a program is necessary. I've had this memorized for decades and seldom needed it since the 80's.

Orange
Yellow

After thinking about this for a while, possibly at one time I had an HP41 keyboard overlay with the appropriate colors noted in flecks of electrical tape on the top rows. And there would have been a program with User mode key assignments that went along with it.

Considering my vague memory of it, I'm thinking I might have written the code during sparky school for a classmate to use in labs. If I had used it quite a bit I think I would have a clearer recollection.

My predilection to write 'bloatware' would make me think the program probably accepted gold and silver too and computed and displayed ranges of resistance possible for the colors.

I do remember using the colored electrical tape, an oatmeal container, and some conduit to make a 'gag' giant 10,000 watt 47K resistor for one of the instructors . . .

I don't know. Also I don't know about kneejerk reactions of others, but I would suggest you program one for your own. It is one of the most simplistic programs to do, where you just replace the color with a number and have 3 .. 5 meanings depending the place the color is. It doesn't need to be pretty, but fast to use.

Here is the one of the most advanced resistor programs ever invented. http://tower-freshmanphysics.wikispaces....de-all.gif You can use it to make your own for prime. Later you can extend the program to calculate series and parallel resistors based on E-series etc.

Only that it is much quicker to read them naturally than using converter, but I assume resistor color coding is losing its importance these days when everything starts to be surface mounted circuitry. ?

Later on one should note that the resistor with only resistance is the ideal (=school book) case, real world resistors have also reactance (resistor have inner capacitance/capacitor and inductance/coil in parallel depending the construction of it) making it reactive and introducing a frequency dependency for it. In other words calculations are made in complex domain when frequency dependancy is critical. Hopefully I translated the "tances" correctly.
