I have good news!
The Prime has a command “Backup” and by entering Backup(“name”) you save all calculator memory under “name”. When you lose all memory you can get it back by entering Restore(“name”). And it works! |

Memory manager->Backups also lets you do this through the GUI.

Hello Tim,
Do you know whether this Backup possibility is a feature of the latest update or was it already present in version 8151? I could look for it myself because I made a backup of firmware version 8151 with Samsung software (only a backup of the app, not of its memory content) and can reinstall it but when I do this I first have to uninstall version 11226 and probably will lose the backup I made of its memory, which contains some programs again. |

Part of the extensive work that went between the 8151 and later was to ensure that all data files and structures are completely identical between all platforms to enable sharing things. Trying to use the data directly in the case of an android version on a later system would not be compatible. In the case of android, they would have been incompatible with every other system. Since there was no way to exchange data though, it wasn't a serious problem then. Trying to directly use that now when there has not been any code created to do conversion is probably asking for trouble. TW Although I work for HP, the views and opinions I post here are my own. |

HP Prime Android Application (2016.12.08 1.3.1.11226) is clearing user apps/programs
Hi,
is there any news? My Android-Prime-App is still not usable, due to the key press lagging and crashes. In December last year I've written to the HP contact from google play store regarding the instable Android-App. Two weeks ago I've received the following answer: 'I have forwarded your email to our development team. I'll let you know what I find out.'. By the way: I've installed the app OS-Monitor (from eolwral) on my SGS5-smartphone and when I start the HP-Prime-Android-App (HPrimeAP) the OS-monitor shows in section 'connections' every 5-10s a newly created HP-Prime connection (UDP4/6 0.0.0.:38812; 'listen'), so that after some time there is a huge number of this connections in the list. Is this behavior normal? Could this cause the delay/lag of the key press? I suspect this is in connection with the new(?) 'connect to' function of the HPrimeAP (settings: Wireless Network Proberties). Because my HPrimeAP shows always 'Status: Looking for network ...'. Another point: when I start the HPrimeAP without WLAN/Mobile connection the HPrimeAP crashes on start up (not always, but very often) |

Yes, the connection is part of the communication. No, it can't be causing the key slowdowns.
The issue has to do with the internal threads getting out of sync somehow with the screen updating. Yes it is being worked on. Did you request to sign up for the play beta testing? I suspect some invites will go out there sometime soon. We'd love you to help see if it is working better for you. Also, closing the application and restarting it will get the screen back "in sync". Some devices see to never have the issue. Some very rarely, and some quite quickly. The connections aren't new connections being created each time. Basically, the application acts as an IP server and waits to receive incoming broadcast packets from a connectivity kit. Then you can pick that connection in your list and connect to share data/apps and so on. TW Although I work for HP, the views and opinions I post here are my own. |

RE: HP Prime Android Application (2016.12.08 1.3.1.11226) is clearing user apps/programs
On most platforms, it will return the actual Os or hardware from the name the system provides. For example, it might say windows 10 and a revision number, or ipad9,1 or something. I think originally they were having some trouble getting that info from android and so it was just hard coded for the moment as it isn't very important.
Glad your problems have been resolved around that Didda. Nobody seems to have noticed the new "HP Prime Free" app that came out, along with the name change to "HP Prime Pro" though for the existing one... TW Although I work for HP, the views and opinions I post here are my own. |

Are the "free" versions of the apps going to be available on all platforms and/or countries? I don't see them available on the major app stores in the US... yet.

Are there any functional differences between the free and Pro versions?
Would it be useful to have both installed, comparable to how one can run several instances of the VC on a PC? Stephen Lewkowicz (G1CMZ) https://my.numworks.com/python/steveg1cmz |

The apps that are enabled - Function, Adv Grapher, Stat1Var, Stat2Var, Inference, Solve, Parametric, Polar, and Sequence. In addition, user programming is turned off (no program catalog, but function defines will work) and communication is turned off. In short, it retains most of the "primary" functionality you'd need for per-university level courses. TW Although I work for HP, the views and opinions I post here are my own. |

I have now made a backup of all memory, but am I going to lose everything again when I update?
In that case I think I will not update for the time being. Exporting the source code of programs to my tablet, and from my tablet to my computer is possible but it takes a lot of work. |

Just like any application - removing it an reinstalling would wipe, but an in place upgrade would not.
If you are concerned about losing things, make sure you connect to a connkit and get the files. TW Although I work for HP, the views and opinions I post here are my own. |

You are right Tim, I had no memory loss at all and did not even have to restore the backup I made in the Memory Manager. I thought to remember that this was different in previous updates and that they wiped all memory, but maybe I am wrong. Because the previous version was the first one with a backup possibility I decided to give it a try, but as said, I did not even need my backup. The issue with having to close correctly on penalty of a factory reset (without loss of backups) is still there but I am used to it by now. |

I am saying, or trying to say, that the problem this thread is about, persists. That problem is the loss of all memory after closing the Prime app. The solution proved to be, at least for me, to close correctly, by pressing Shift – On. So when you do not, you are “punished” by a total reset of memory, apart from the backups you made. I am also saying that this is not a problem for me anymore, because I am used to it and so this hardly happens to me anymore, and when it does it is very easy to restore one of my backups. For people who are reading this and wonder what these backups are, these are internal backups, so not external backups to my tablet or computer, but they work very well. |
