HP 9114B questions
Just got my hands on this drive, and would like to get it working. It looks almost new, but I'm sure the battery is dead, and the only charger I have is HP 82059B. Here are my questions:

1. Is that the right charger? I've only been able to find a manual for the 9114A on the web, and it does list that model as compatible.
2. I've seen some posts about using a 6V 2A+ charger directly without the battery, any issues with that? I have a Radio Shack 2.5A adjustable one that should work. I've ordered a replacement battery but I want to play with it...

And yes, I do have a pil-box, this is just something for fun!

I use a non-original 6.5VDC/2.5A Olympus camera switched power source and no batteries. I remember a 6VDCC/2A adapter I’d tried earlier wouldn’t work.

Gerson.

I replaced one of my batteries with a 6V, 3A DC adapter. The drive works fine but the TEST light does flash when executing RESTOREIO. The drive can momentarily draw up to 10A.

Replacement batteries, like a PowerSonic PS-628, can be charged externally with a 6V SLA charger.

RE: HP 9114B questions
OK, success so far! My RS power supply is working fine, although it was fun trying alligator plugs that deep inside. Would be nice if I could find the S-302-CCT connector, alas looks like it's long be discontinued.

Hopefully I don't have any issues with the new battery when it gets here, and actually have a portable drive...

EDIT: And the battery just got here, much faster than anticipated, and works great too, so I'm all set!

Fortunately I still have 2 in stock, but it looks like they can be found on eBay.

RE: HP 9114B questions
Regarding your question about the adapter, yes that is the correct adapter, however with no battery installed (or a dead battery), it can't supply enough current (as Dave noted above, draw can be very high) and the drive will not always work properly (though oddly, sometimes it does, but not reliably).

Fortunately my new battery:

Arrived in two days, and charged. Works great, and charger seems to be working as well.

The drive does make a funny noise when first spinning up the disk, but then it is all quiet. Works fine though, formatting or copying back and forth...

Thanks, eBay is always the place forget when it comes to little parts, although I think I'll just stick with the new battery for now. Works great!
