That’s completely right. But I thought the measures were identical!
Absolutely not your fault. The calculator designers should have been just a little bit more true to the original design - by tiny, tiny fractions of dimensions.

I've trimmed about 1-2mm off the bottom, so that it now sits inside the slight ridge at the bottom (just below the crhome trim line). It's a lot better, but I haven't used it enough since trimming to know how much better it will work. It seems to sit a lot flatter.

Note that the silicone material stretches easily and it's hard to make such a fine cut without variation (i.e. it may be a bit crooked). I used a metal ruler to guide a hobby knife (new blade) and Werner mentioned that he carefully used scissors; both methods seemed to work OK.

Would anyone know if the excellent new Pogo cable allows program swaps to the PC, as well as firmware updates?

The f/w does not have the function built-in to support memory transfers, but clearly it could. It has been widely requested and it's not unreasonable to expect Moravia is listening, but nothing has been formally confirmed yet. I'd hang in there...

Initially the Windows 10 machine did not recognize the calculator in boot mode so I tried it on Windows 7. I think it may have been that I was either pressing reset too long or wasn't pressing the buttons consistently.

I like the idea of flashing the newest 12C for a dedicated 16C, all of the US shopping sites I checked, including hp.com, seem to have photos of older 12C versions. I know the Calculator Store has new 12Cs, does anyone know of a source in the US?

I initially had quite a time getting Windows to SEE the cable... After a while I figured out that that I was not actually in programming mode per se, so kept trying things after finding this forum and the post above. Eventually, Success! I hope my findings helps someone... though it seems most all of you did fine Smile

Following the instructions provided on TCS, was my confusion...

Quote:Now, let's put the calculator in Programming Mode.
Put the calculator on (this is not required but helps to see if you are doing well)
To do that, press and keep pressed the ERASE button in the cable. Then press and release the RESET button. Release the ERASE button. ... The calculator screen should be off, but you should be able to see the device in the Device Manager of your computer. You should be now ready for the next steps.

The part that tripped me up was turning the calculator ON first...

Leaving the calculator off, and very quickly holding erase then pressing reset then release both fast did the trick...

Maybe break it out into two steps? "Step 1: In order to test that you are holding the buttons correctly, turn the calculator ON, [do the button steps], verify calculator turns off; then turn calculator on, see pr-error, turn off", "Step 2: ... generally as above", but point out that calculator won't mount/be recognized as a com device...?"

On my PC i also had to turn on "show hidden devices" under view; after that, I could see it, though it also shows up automatically in the SAM-BA app.

Otherwise, glorious, thanks TCS! (José)

I had not yet tried to update the HP15C CE.
Then yesterday I decided...
Unfortunately on a PC with Windows 10 the device manager tells me "Error 10".
So I tried with Windows 7... same thing: "Error 10"
I see on MicroChip a version for Vista... so I take out of the closet an old PC with Vista... "Error 10"...
Could it come from the cable? defective?

RE: HP15c CE POGO programming cable - Divasson - 09-28-2024 03:49 PM

Pierre,

Make sure you press hard on the ERASE button, and then press hard and release the RESET button - then release ERASE. It is good practice to start with the calculator on, so when you do the right process, the calculator screen goes blank.

Then, open SAM-BA (I use version 2.18) and choose the /USBserial/COM that appears there - then continue the process

We paid for 100% cable testing - and so far none went wrong!

I must not have been clear enough:

the problem is not the update of the HP-15C CE!!!

The problem is that the cable is not recognized by the Windows driver.
Sam-ba does not offer a COM port since the port is in error 10.
With SAM-ba 2.18 on Windows 10 the dirver is installed but remains in error 10
With SAM-ba 2.16 on Windows 7 the driver is installed but remains in error 10
Same with Vista ...
Whatever the SAM-BA version (from the Microchip site) and whatever the Windows system, the driver is installed but the cable is not recognized!
Thanks but RESET/ERASE cannot allow Windows to recognize the cable.
Too bad, it does not matter, I will give up.

Thanks!

Pierre,

"Error 10" is a Windows driver problem and has nothing to do with the cable. That cable is a pure electrical connection. There's no electronics in it to go wrong.

In a WinXP virtual machine (VM) I had to install the Atmel (SAM-BA) driver but not on a Win7 one (it was built-in). I didn't try Vista.

RE: HP15c CE POGO programming cable - Divasson - 09-28-2024 04:26 PM

Hi, maybe I am not understanding you well: the cable has no active devices at all, it cannot be recognized by Windows anymore than a plain usb cable is not recognized until something else is connected to it and switched on.

My cable arrived today, and updated my new HP-15CE tonight to latest firmware. Was previously seeing dropped keys every minute or so if typed quickly, especially multiple key presses on single key. Much much happer now with 120ms update thank you.
The process was challenging in places on my Windows 11 machine. Some things I think helped:
- my Reset and Erase buttons feel spongy on the cable - I had to decisively and slowly fully depress Reset
- if the Erase/Reset sequence succeeds you see the extra port come up in device manager. The calculator display seemed to go off at first press, but it sometimes took multiple careful presses to have the Com port appear
- on my Windows 11 machine, the Com part appears as "Bossa Program Port"
- running Sam-Ba in Administrator mode
- You MUST see something like /USBserial/COM15 as the FIRST entry in drop down for port selection in Sam-Ba (you'll also lower down have something like COM15 appear without the USBserial mode - selecting that puts you in an endless loop and the sam-ba window disappears
- Once Sam-Ba connects the retreival and send processes are straight-forward following the instructions

Many thanks again for making the cable available Smile

Due to low stock, all POGO cables left are assigned to HP15c CE enhanced units and cannot be bought separately for the time being.

They can still be bought separately in commerce.hpcalc.org in the US

Production of new stock is ongoing and will be announced when it arrives (this means that 1k units have been sent to customers, BTW)

A sellout!
Thank you for making the effort to design and produce these cables.
