RE: HP-01 available - PANAMATIK - 06-28-2016 01:11 PM

The first repaired HP-01!

I'm wearing the first ever repaired HP-01 on my wrist, after fatal electronic failure in the past, running again on SR44 cells.

[Image: uc?export=view&id=0Bwx8KUfOUL_RRXI3UDBlSkJKeHc]
Left HP-01 Gold repaired, right HP-01 Stainless Steel original

The first HP-01 I bought wasn't working, the gold one. But it's electronic components gave me the key for reading the original ROM, the second was working and gave me another key for developing the software and now both are working identically. It is a great pleasure. Smile

I will have to write the manual now and do some long time surveillance, let's call it "watch watching", until end of this month. If all goes according to plan, I will offer the repair kit in a few weeks. The price will be cheaper than announced, but still I had real costs and I'm unsure about how many watches are waiting for a repair. They will be much less than HP-25s around.

Anyway it will be great, that anybody now can repair their HP-01.

Bernhard

Hello Bernhard!

Congratulations! I am more impressed than ever...

Is it different from the original one?

If the final price is not too much out of this world, you can count me in for one module (I have two working HP-01s and one which is defective, so there is no real pressure for repairing that one).

Regards
Max

Thank you!

Because the module is fitting in the watch case, I'm more relieved than ever....

No, the functionality is exactly identical. But I have to add chapters about Do It Yourself repair process, handling, battery change, technical data etc.

I will fix the price within this week.

Ditto, albeit I am in the same situation you were, Bernhard, but my working one is the gold model.

Thank you very much!

No problem, the stainless steel can be repaired as well.

I have also gold electrolyt here for converting, if you like. Smile

No, thanks: I really like best the stainless version.

Fantastic news Bernard, congratulations on this achievement.
I have a stainless Steel Hikey prototype 01 that I would like to resurrect .
I'm in for one, and may be a spare.

Ray

Hi Ray,

What does Hikey prototype 01 mean? How many prototypes HP-01 exist?

Bernhard

Hi Ray,

Bernhard

I don't know how many exist. The keys are not recessed below "bezel" like normal watch, they protrude higher than the surface of bezel and are all the same height. I could only imagine it was for the purpose for demonstrating watch without pin.
It is also missing serial No:, and has not for resale on rear cover.
I guess it could have been sales man sample?
Hope that makes sense

Ray

Actually the prototypes have no numbers on the case back. So, yes Ray, you have a prototype of the last version created which was the 'tall keys' version.

I have six cases here all in need of a board, but pricing will be the limiting factor. Also, how secure in their capsules are the LEDs and their wire bonds? Hate to find out I have corroded wire bonds but a good microscope should tell you that, or a simple test of the panel removed.

Sign me up for at least one Bernhard. And as usual you have outdone yourself yet again. Haven't installed the GPS yet but will soon.

Cheers, Geoff

P.S. Bernhard, have your received a package from me yet? It is slow mail.

Hi Geoff,

PM sent.

I don't know how many HP-01 displays are defective. As this is the only part, which must be reused, it is mandatory to check its functionality before repair. I have four HP-01 displays, only one of them has a segment missing, fortunately a segment which is not used in time and date display - and another segment is weak, about half the brightness, the other displays are like new.

Guys, where the hell do you have these spare parts from?
I was lucky to get a PCB years before, but since then I didn't see any parts of a HP-01 for sale.

Nothing to worry about. It is, as you say, not easy to get HP-01 spare parts. Three displays are from the real watches, only one I could buy as spare part from france. It was the most expensive display I ever bought.

But cheaper than a complete watch. Smile

Did you mamage to reattach the bond wires? Or is the stainless steel one not the one you read the rom from?

If you can reattach the bond wires of my Gold HP-01, you get an HP-01 repair kit for free Smile

I read the ROMs from the gold one, because luckily the wires of the ROMs were still attached.

I can ask our hybrid lab, but I think they can only handle bigger bond wires...

Ah, OK. It sounded like you had to buy the steel one because the gold one didn't work at all

Very interesting and not far away from here!

Offers repairs for Pulsar, Omega, Hamilton, Heuer, Sinclair, GP.

But not HP!

you might just ask him - maybe he just did not realize that there is a market for hp watch repairs...

RE: HP-01 available - Geoff Quickfall - 07-01-2016 01:12 AM

Yes, no HP modules, but he does wire bond repairs, not just to those listed. Those listed have replacement boards/modules with original led panels attached.

Watch restorations, my other hobby.

Cheers, Geoff

He also created this watch: http://www.hgwc.de

I have one and it is beautiful!
