As I understand it, the HP 35 was the first handheld calculator to go into space.

Nice to know that the machine sitting on my desk has some history attached to it even though it didn't go up there itself...

Yes, this was listed for October on the "Hewlett-Packard's Great Adventures - Ten Years of Innovations" anniversary calendar published in 1982 :
