This thread can be a good complement to the the "most common calculator" in the forum actually.

Interesting. While I understand that the calculator is quite good. Why not some other models? Casio itself has similar newer models with likely more abilities (fx 5800P ?).

Of course a reason to use something could just be "because I want to".

1) WP-34s on OSX & iOS (for obvious reasons, I wrote them)
2) DM-42
3) HP-10C (like its simplicity)

Why the 50 before the Prime?

If you have to ask... Smile

casio fx-cg50
casio fx-991 CE X
ti-30x pro

Simply because it is always handy:

1. Free42 for iPhone. My physical 42’s need some work (probably the press fitted ribbon cable has lost contact) and the Free42 has the same versatility and ease of programming as the originals.

2. HP15C & HP15C. Once again ease of use plus a great solver.

3. HP12C. Due to easy availablity and similarity to the 15C, I have using these for simple calculations and some programming experimentation.

My most used calculators:

  1. HP 15C Limited Edition
  2. WP 34S
  3. GNU Emacs’s `calc` mode, or my High School HP 48G for a physical calculator

1. HP 48G on my desk at work.
2. TI-84 Plus CE because that's what the students who come for help use.
3. Varies - currently my HP 42S has my attention.

Hello larthurl,

it is me: before I have a chance to retire...

1. Prime
2. DM42
3. TI-59 (yes, it still works including mag card reader!)

RE: Top three calculators ? - Harald - 04-03-2018 09:13 PM

1. 15c (can't believe I have had it for 20 years now) bought it used when I started university, still my go to calculator.
2. Probably 32Sii used it very heavily at school, very rarely nowadays though.
3. HP42S, WP34S, HP35 with multi emulator upgrade, Woodstock LP, EMU42, HP50G... I am just not sure which comes third...

Yes... because I use neither (although I have a Prime)

Please excuse my snarkiness, it's just that the relative merits of calculator 'A' vs calculator 'B' are a subject of vigorous arguments on these fora. See, for instance this thread.

Though the Prime is quite fast and has a nicer display, I find the 50g and RPL more efficient and intuitive than the Prime and its BASIC-like language.

RE: Top three calculators ? - hp41cx - 04-03-2018 11:48 PM

1 - 17BII
2 - PC-1500A (Pocket computer)
3 - TI-58C

Maybe the Continuous Memory...?!?
I have a perfect HP65, but I really hate if anything goes down with the power OFF.

Oh, that's cute & cool... the TI-58C. Why not a TI-59?

What? No HP-41CX?
