News about the WP 34S v3.3 Spiral Bound Manuals - walter b - 06-04-2014 08:47 PM

All but five payments are in so far. Thankyou! Smile

I expect three of them coming in tomorrow. I hate to tell you two folks didn't react at all so far although they got PMs like everybody else Confused Do we have drop-outs on this forum? Will see ...

Anyway, I'm going to upload the data to the printshop tomorrow and order the batch then. So this is the last call for anybody who wants to join in for this batch. Well, you can also come later but then you must queue until at least 20 folks wait in line together with you - it's your decision.

If it's not too late I'd like to order a WP 34s manual.

/ Jonas

I'll buy one of the extra three spiral WP34S manuals. I'm assuming that this is the same online payment system as a few months ago but if you all trust it then so will I. Can someone send me the current link for the payment site? I'll do it tonight or tomorrow morning California time.

Update regarding 34S v3.3 Manuals - walter b - 06-07-2014 11:14 PM

Some 18 MB of data are at the printshop now: innards, front, and back. There will be a little delay due to the holidays, so I'll receive a proof print not earlier than Wednesday.

Learned something about book covers yesterday Wink but that printshop is really cooperative. Smile Expect my proof print by tomorrow or Friday. Something to browse in half-time breaks - looking forward to it.

BTW: Will you publish pdf versions or did certain, ah, embellishments of your WP 34S manual lead to a decision to go print only? That would be sorry indeed.

Thank you.

a.

Not only progress is a snail - also proofs may take longer than expected. Confused Sorry for that. Won't get it before Monday now. Thanks for your patience.

Update regarding 34S v3.3 spiral bound manuals - walter b - 06-25-2014 07:56 PM

Meanwhile, I got the proof print - and found some space for improvement, of course: colors, pictures, diagrams. Everything completed now, final data upload an hour ago. Now 10 working days for the printer again to get his job done.

Update - walter b - 06-27-2014 12:10 PM

According to information received from the printer just now, delivery of the books to me shall be early in week 29. Just FYI.

Current state of the art or: where are we now? - walter b - 07-02-2014 09:42 PM

I was asked in a PM but I think there are no secrets in this matter so I collected all information here:
  • For the WP 34S Owner's Manual v3.3, an order of 40 manuals is just being processed. I.e. the printer is printing. All those manuals are sold already. I expect the package reaching me in week 29, repack and send the individual books to the buyers then. I'll make a picture before repacking and post it here so you will know what you will be looking forward to.
  • For the WP 31S User's Manual, I'm collecting orders still. We've got 17 so far (Sanjeev, Jonathan, Pauli, Silvain, and Bob; Günter, Jake, Hubert, Aurelio, and Mark H.; Eric R., Namir, Shawn, Marcus, everettr, BobVA, and Timan O.). We need 20 at least to be able to hold the price of 20 € / 28 US$ per piece (some 140 pages full color, A5, spiral bound). Shipping & handling add 5 € / 7 US$ (3 € within Germany). The manual is 99.5% complete today but still open for one or two good ideas.
  • For a new batch of the WP 34S Owner's Manual v3.3, I need at least 20 orders again to be able to hold the price of 28 € / 39 US$ per piece (370 pages full color, A5, spiral bound). Shipping & handling add 8,5 € / 12 US$ (3 € within Germany). Note the price per piece of the first batch was lower since that batch was larger.
  • In the long run, waiting for 20 orders may take too long after the first few batches. In that case, I may return to the print shop that does the job for the WP 34S Owner's Manual v3.2 so far (and where you can order just one copy a time) BUT then spiral binding will be gone. Please read my earlier posts for the reasons.
  • Personalized pdf files may be an alternative to printed matter but I didn't look into that deeply yet (though I have my doubts). I might do it IF it's safe. Don't hold your breath for that, however.
Hope this answers all open questions. Else please ask.

d:-)

At some point in the future after enough WP-34S V3.3 manuals have sold, do you plan to release the
V3.2 manual as a PDF file? Or would you consider emailing a copy of the 3.2 pdf to all those who ordered
the 3.3 printed manual?

Barry,

As I wrote some minutes ago:
Quote:Personalized pdf files may be an alternative to printed matter but I didn't look into that deeply yet (though I have my doubts). I might do it IF it's safe.

The whole electronic document distribution looks like Pandora's box to me so far. And I don't see a pressing need to open it.
