PC-G850VS Speaker Sounds - toml_12953 - 10-01-2018 12:50 PM

So far I haven't been brave enough to open my PC-G850VS to install a speaker. Right now I have a piezo plugged into pins 2 and 7 of the 11-pin port. I also have a CE-126P printer/cassette inteface plugged into it (the piezo's wires are very thin) I notice that when I'm loading a program from cassette, the piezo plays the sounds from the cassette - the typical scratchy sound of recorded cassette data.

If I do finally open my unit and install the speaker internally, will it still play cassette data when doing a BLOAD?

You just want to recreate to 1980’s don’t cha Big Grin

Is it loud then ? Or just background ?
I can see some benefit if it’s background cos at least you’d know you’re playing a part of the tape with data of some sort.

I will open my machine again tonight potentially and I’ll take some pertinent disassembly photos, and post them up. Then you’ll be able to move it to the correct position.

I wonder if there is complete continuity between the pads on the pcb (where present) and the relevant pins on the interface header.....?

Presumably, it's missing the on-screen "tape loading bars" (à la Commodore Vic20, C64, and Sinclair ZX Spectrum) for that perfect 80's experience!

It does display an asterisk when it finds the right file as the TRS-80 did but it doesn't blink.

All this talk about this unit has broken me down, I just ordered one. This all so soon after getting my DM42 too.

Has the manual been translated yet? These types of computers were very popular for a long time, too bad nobody makes such a thing any more.

Next best thing, I started the idea of google translating the german version of the book on post 20, which then gave us a semi-readable english book.
Then 'jwhsu' took the idea on from that and edited out the hiccups and added more stuff to it.
Take a look at the longer 850 thread in this section:

The revised book is on post 39 in that thread.

Welcome to the club! It was all the discussion about it plus the English translation of the manual that got me interested. I really like the implementation of C on this little machine.
