HP48GII Disassembly - TomC - 09-30-2019 11:09 PM

Has it been documented - or - has anybody:

Opened up a HP48GII?
No obvious heat stakes on rear -perhaps from the keyboard side?

Obviously significantly different from a HP46G/GX series.

Thank you,
TomC

Is this what you're looking for?

It does seem a bit destructive.

That information is for recyclers who have no intention of putting the calculator back together though.

Disassembly of HP 48gII should be similar to 39gs/40gs/49g+/50g.

Dave:

Thanks! This is strictly for harvesting the LCD.

I'm curious about what you plan to do with the LCD! I think the 38gs and 40gs use the same LCD (and maybe the 39g+), but I'm not sure about older models such as 49G, 40G, and 39G. I'm pretty sure the LCD is incompatible with 48SX and 48GX.

Dave:
Thanks again - the .pdf does not have the picture file - and the instructions refer to cutting the Lower Case Boss (step 2). It is not clear where this is.?

Any ideas?

Thanks again,
TomC

Ian:

Thanks - I'm trying to find what models have a display that is compatible with the 48G series...

The 39G, 40G and 49G use the same LCD (all black) but the later ARM-based machines use a different style. In the past, several folks (including myself) had incorrectly posted that other models including the 39GS, 40GS, etc. were also compatible donors, but that is not correct, only the Saturn-based machines use the same LCD interface.

It looks like there are plenty of 39G going cheap on TAS in the US, so that's probably Tom's best candidate for an LCD transplant into a 48S/SX/G/GX/G+.
