I see the problem, and I think she knows.
But where does the picture come from?

There seems to be a hidden figure.

That 6 she's pointing at ought to be a 7.

Wow, that's a really good eye Valentin!

Oh! You mean with the stick? Yeah, math....

That room-sized computer behind her got it wrong but the pocket-sized DM42 got every digit of the answer right!

Excellent! And that of course is the point of the promotion: the computer won't make a mistake like that.

I found the original:

In "Surely You're Joking, Mr Feynman" he describes the algorithms he used to take care of this sort of thing when they were using ladies with calculators to perform calculations at Los Alamos. Rather than stopping the calculation and starting over, they would introduce a colored card with the required correction, these cards would have priority and would soon catch up to the erroneous result and the calculation would then proceed.

Perhaps I'm being dense but I'm not understanding how this progression works. Add the first two numbers and then some multiples of one of those numbers in a geometric sequence?

It's just long, written-out multiplication. It's probably been so long since anyone here has done math this way, no one recognizes it any more, lol.

Well now I feel sheepish. Seems obvious now that it's just the multiplication of the two numbers with all the stages in between!

It's not that you didn't recognize the multiplication, it's that you were very distracted by the girl... so don't feel bad.
"Lady with a stick" has some attitude in her eyes... Why is she still looking at me like it was MY mistake? I wasn't even born then, I swear!
