HP 19C Charger - DEJR8ISGREAT - 06-14-2021 02:00 AM

I bought a 19C on EBAY without a charger, I thought I saw in the Museum that the charger could be a 82059A or B, so I purchased a 82059B, but on closer inspection that says for 7 watts, would it still be safe to use? Or would it fry the 19C? I can't find a 82059A...

Hello DEJR8ISGREAT,

the Owner's Handbook for the HP-19C/29C from September 1977 lists on page 180 the HP-82059A as AC adapter/recharger for the 19C. For the 29C the HP-82026A is listed as AC adapter/recharger. Unfortunately, no other technical data is listed except for the input voltage:
- HP-82059A: 90-127Vac, 50-60Hz
- HP-82026A: 90-127Vac, 50-60Hz or 200-250 Vac, 50-60 Hz
So maybe the only difference between the two is the input voltage. If you're living in Europe and your power station provides 200-250 Vac you should avoid the 82059A.

Best rgards

Karl

The 82059B adapter is correct for a 19C and can safely be used, assuming the battery pack is installed and in good condition and working properly. While I don't believe the 19C suffers from the same poor power supply design as normal Woodstock machines, it's always best to ensure proper working conditions with vintage equipment.

An always very good reference is Kees's page:

BTW: My HP82066B (Europe) also has 3VA, 8 VDC. (But I don't own an HP-19C or HP-10)

Thank you for your posts, one more question, it goes into the calculator both ways, does that matter, I thought one side is positive and one negative. The only difference I see is a very small slightly raised rectangle on the plug that connects to the port, like I say it fits both ways. Yes I did get a new battery, amazing what a 3D printer makes.

Pretty sure that should be 8 VAC, not DC. At least the 82059A/B/D adapters are 8 VAC.

There is no PLUS or MINUS, since it's an AC power supply. It can be installed either way.

Of course, it's 8 VAC - only a transformer
