The little number in the HP 30b version - Joe Horn - 07-22-2021 07:37 PM

When ON+PMT is pressed on the HP 30b, then down-arrow is pressed 4 times, the display shows the "SW Version" as a date followed by a small digit in the exponent area.

The following are the SW Versions on my two 30b's, with the trailing digit being very small:

10 01 2009 ... 4
10 27 2009 ... 2

This puzzles me, since the American-format date increased, but the trailing digit decreased. Anybody know what that tiny digit refers to?

4 5 2010 ... 1

for me, so a later date but a lower number.

The little number appears to be the day of the week, counting Monday as 1, Tuesday as 2, etc.

Fits those three numbers, which makes me suspect that's it.

May ** not ** be the day of the week but those three dates follow that pattern.

Oh my goodness, that's awesome! That must be it, because the built-in Date function uses exactly the same display, with the day of week showing in the exponent area. So the Version screen just called the Date code to display the version date... and the day of week is an unnecessary byproduct. Very cool! Thanks, Gene!
