New firmware 2.1.14596 (2021-10-01) - akmon - 10-02-2021 09:54 AM

I was surfing in hpcalc.org, and discovered an unexpected new firmware version, but I cannot find the new features:
G1: https://www.hpcalc.org/details/7469
G2: https://www.hpcalc.org/details/7783

RE: New firmware 2.1.14596 (2021-10-01) - Jacob Wall - 10-02-2021 03:51 PM

Interesting and unexpected.

The WAIT(-1) bug on G1 is still there, so back to (2020-01-16) version if you have any programs that use that command.

Can’t go to computer to update until Monday…any new capabilities, fixes since May update for U.S. folks, or is this mainly impacting European users?

So far no one seems to know exactly what changes and/or fixes are in it. I updated all my Primes (A, C old kb, C new kb, and D) anyway just because I like being on the current version.

RE: New firmware 2.1.14596 (2021-10-01) - Eric Rechlin - 10-02-2021 11:10 PM

I am aware of two fixes in it:
  • Fixes a memory leak in the power function
  • Fixes a bug in the derivation of the logb function

This is a nice surprise! Smile

RE: New firmware 2.1.14596 (2021-10-01) - StephanP - 10-03-2021 08:24 AM

The Connectivity Kit (new or old version) does not appear to pick up the firmware update automatically. I downloaded it separately from https://www.hpcalc.org/prime/pc/ and manually replaced the files in the Firmware folder.

Attention MacOS users - BruceH - 10-03-2021 01:20 PM

I was able to successfully download this latest version onto my G2 Prime using MacOS.

Pre-prequisites
  • MacOS 11.6 (BigSur)
  • HP Connectivity Kit Build: 2.1.14425 (2020 1 16) installed
  • System Preferences -> Security & Privacy -> Input Monitoring - give permission to Terminal and HP Connectivity Kit.app
  • A USB-2 hub
The USB-2 hub is vital - the upgrade would not work at all when directly connected to a USB3 port or a USB3 hub. This is a known bug.

Install steps
  • Download the 2021.10.01 firmware from https://www.hpcalc.org/details/7783
  • Upzip it and copy the contents into the "Documents:HP Connectivity Kit:Firmware:PrimeG2" folder. Copy just the individual files not any enclosing folder that may have resulted from the unzip. Delete any previous files that might be there already, first.
  • Connect the Prime to the Mac by USB cable (remembering to go through the USB2 hub)
  • Start the HP Connectivity Kit and it should more or less immediately display a popup dialog asking if you want to upgrade to the 2021.10.01 version. Say yes and wait

The upgrade should be quite quick - less than a minute to transfer the firmware (during which the Prime will display a "Do not disconnect" warning) and then 30 seconds or so to update the firmware on the Prime (during which a 3 row progress bar chart is shown).

If the calc appears to do nothing, locks up or goes back to input mode (so you can enter numbers on the keyboard for example) then you have gone wrong.

Notice it says some USB 3 ports, not all. This bug was fixed in version 1.2 and we're up to 2.1 now so it shouldn't be a problem unless you haven't updated since an ancient version.

RE: New firmware 2.1.14596 (2021-10-01) - Liam Hays - 10-04-2021 01:39 AM

There's no 20211001 firmware on the HP FTP server; the newest is 20210505, and 20210609 for the emulator. There's also no new information in the release_info.txt in either firmware release. It's strange that they would release it with no info---in fact, where did it come from if it's not on HP's servers? Was it uploaded to hpcalc.org by a member of the software team themselves?

I see no discernable difference between this version and the last one, so it's probably just a routine bugfix update. I upgraded my G2, and its VERSION string shows "Software Version: 2.1.14596 (2021 10 01) Hardware Version: D CAS Version 1.5.0 Operating System: V2.060.650". Unfortunately, I don't remember what the last version's VERSION string was; does anyone else have it? I have a dim recollection of a different Operating System number in particular.

RE: New firmware 2.1.14596 (2021-10-01) - KlaasKuperus - 10-04-2021 09:49 AM

Hi all,

This is due to a small error in the LOGB function we've come accross in The Netherlands. LOGB in PPL was not understood by the CAS, who is doing the derivative for the extremum function. Detecting LOGB in the PPL to CAS convertor fixed the problem. Some other small fixes were done in the same time. This is a first BETA update, the official one will follow soon.

Fix what problem ?
Can you show an example of the bug ?

Firstly, "some ports" might be true for Windows, but most Macs seem affected. Secondly, the fact that the bug was fixed in v1.2 is only relevant for those who bought their Prime with an OOTB version >= 1.2. Anyone with an earlier version and hit by the USB bug would be unable to upgrade from their ancient version, unless they knew the USB2 trick.

Waiting for complete cas commands, these are the ones that can be executed by the calculator.

7. Add a polynomial root wizard in the toolbox/cas/polynomial menu
8. Add Torque units
9. Add save/load of work in home
10. Add triangle surface calculation in triangle solver
11. Solve app: one can enter equations that use undefined variables. It will ask if and where they need to be created
12. Allow ifactor and similar function to be disabled in exam mode math/numbers
13. Cas median, quartile and mean functions are now disabled when Do1VStat is disabled in exam mode
14. Cas regressions fuctions are now disabled when Stat2Vars is disabled in exam mode

Cas change:
1. fix bisection solver
2. fix for derivative evaluation and for solve

12. improve factor(x^5-1) if sqrt is checked
13. improved precision for normald_cdf with negative arguments
14. improvement for integration of normald(x)*normald_cdf(x)
15. increase default number of steps for bisection solver
16. patch for limit(((sin(x))^(2))+((cos(x))^(2)),x=inf)
17. some list processing for polar/rectangular_coordinates
18. avoid infinite loop for desolve(y'=((-((y)^(3)))+((51)*((y)^(2))))-(((5/100))*(y)))
19. fix for piecewise conversion if one test is true or false
20. optionnal arguments left, right, center, tail for normald_icdf (also for Student, Fisher and Chi Square)
21. texpand improvement for texpand(tan(pi/2-x))

fixed bugs:
1. no more reset in spreadsheet if goto and no entry
2. Most Geometry app display should follow the Number Format
3. #FF:64 edition in base was incorrect...
4. (2_s)^-1 gave a wrong result!
5. ABS(1/3+1/3+1/3) was not 1
6. RPN sequences were not evaluated when executed in dialog boxes or spreadsheet
7. could not integrate between F1 and F2=dF1(X)/X=X
8. crash if trying to user assign ON+ combination
9. crash in user keys when switching views
10. create help program from the program editor yielded a crash upon escape from newly created program
11. drawing X^(2/3) did not show anything in negative
12. edit mat, in readonly mode, did not display correctly the user selected title.
13. entering a bad RPN command (like 1+2) in 2 var stat column caused a crash...
14. paste of a quoted " did not work

So, back to which one doesn't work on mines.

That contained (fixed bugs):

5. ABS(1/3+1/3+1/3) was not 1

But I can definitely tell you, that if I type (and I use the little vertical line instead of ABS, yeah?)
ABS(1/3+1/3+1/3) and then hit Enter, then I get the result of 0.9999999999.

Was that not one of the fixes?

Point 5 should have sorted out for me:

But if I search the manual

Eric posted some minor notes from CdB above; looks like a very small bug-fix release.

As for your results, they both look correct to me.
