An EL-5100 was my weapon of choice during my brief stint as an electrical engineering student. RE: Sharp EL-5100 Applications Text - PDF Manual - srk00 - 11-10-2021 04:26 AM I think the S version had a silver-tinted LCD (?) rather than the yellow LCD used on the EL-5100. I don't know if this version fared any better with the dreaded screen rot issue. My EL-5100 from 1980 (which I also used extensively in my engineering classes) is fortunately still working and very legible, with very little degradation. I hadn't seen this application book before, thank you for posting! This one does have the silver-backed LCD vs. the yellow. However, in browsing eBay listings, I did see at least a couple EL-5100 without the "S" designator that had silver-colored LCDs. (I checked the item photos, not just the listing heading). Not sure on other silver-backed ones for longevity, but I can see a little faint darkness trying to creep into the top-left side of my display.
