Is there a calculator... - sa-penguin - 07-09-2014 04:05 AM

A calculator [or equivalent] that does DSP?

I'd like to explore filters (FIR, IIR etc.) and it seems the most logical self-contained unit would be in the form of a calculator.

Yes, it would need an ADC [and preferably a DAC as well] but the main thing is the ability to access a series of registers, containing the variables that define a filter.

Does anyone know of such a beast? Or should I be looking at small netbooks?

I've never heard of anything like that. If I wanted to play around with different DSP methods I would probably buy an inexpensive DSP evaluation board from TI, Analog Devices or some other DSP manufacturer. They typically supply an IDE with these and libraries of algorithms that implement various signal processing routines. Of course you'd need a netbook or something to run that on.

Here's an example of what I'm thinking about.
