HP-86 system available - smp - 09-02-2022 02:40 PM

Good morning folks,

I have an HP-86 system that I am not using, and I would like to sell to someone who will put it to good use.

The system is made up of:

- HP-86B
- HP-9121 Dual 3.5” floppy disk drive
- HP-82900A Auxiliary Processor (CP/M System) with the proper boot disk
- the new HP85Disk for virtual disk drives if you don’t want to use real floppies, or to use along with real floppies
- HP-82929 Programmable ROM Module
- An 87-EMS ROM, never installed
- HP-82936A ROM Drawer, with a few HP-85 ROMs in it

Sorry, but I will be keeping my CRT monitor.

To be sure, I invested a pile of $$ into this over the years, but as I said, I’m just not using it any more, and I hate to see this good stuff going unused. I’d like to get $400 for the whole kit-and-kaboodle. I’d also like to work with someone who can pick it up, or we can meet half way in between. I’d really prefer not to go through all the expense and hassle of shipping.

Please let me know if you’re interested and whatever questions you may have.

No interest at all?

What about parting the system out? Anyone interested in any of the parts? I can ship individual parts as long as the buyer pays for the shipping.

Hi,

I could be interested by some parts of the package if you are willing to drive towards Burlington, (I am in Montreal) but first you should try to sell the whole lot by advertising it in the dedicated vintage HP computer group: https://groups.io/g/VintHPcom

Edit: I see you already offered it on the https://groups.io/g/hpseries80 group.

I had an offer for this entire system from someone. I've had it all packed up into a 24 x 24 x 24 inch cube weighing 43 pounds. For that person, the shipping cost from NH to AZ was the deal breaker.

If anyone is interested in this entire system, for the original asking price of $400, plus $30 for packing, and whatever the shipping cost will be, please let me know. I can ship via FedEx or UPS.

The system is complete and working.

The two HPIB cables for attaching both the Floppy Disk unit and the 85Disk unit are included. As well a long USB cable from the 85Disk unit is included for connecting to your external computer for file transfer. 3 AC power cables are included.

You will have to source your own 5V power supply for the 85Disk unit.

I printed out some instructions for the 85Disk unit when it came out - those papers will be included.

No manuals, handbooks, or quick references are included.

I will send all my 3.5 inch floppy disks. There will be a couple of the proper boot disks for the CP/M System, and I believe an image of the CP/M System boot disk is also installed in the 85Disk unit. Otherwise, there will be a couple of HP-86 disks with a few of my own programs on them - nothing remarkable. There will be some CP/M disks with figFORTH on them, and again, a few of my own CP/M disks with what I played with on them - nothing remarkable.

I have no other application software for the system.

As far as the ROM Drawer with HP-85 ROMS, the EMS ROM, and the Programmable ROM Module, I have never installed or used any of them. I believe them to be operational.

Please post any other questions that you may have.

SEPARATELY, I have:

- HP-86/87 Operating and BASIC Programming Manual (original from HP)

- 3 ring binder with Xerox copies of:
- - Introduction to the HP-86B
- - 9121D/S Disc Memory Operator's Manual
- - Mass Storage ROM Manual
- - Introduction to the HP82900A CP/M System
- - HP 82936A ROM Drawer Instruction Sheet

- Xerox copy of:
- - HP 82900A CP/M System Reference Manual (not 3-hole punched)
- - HP-85 Pocket Guide

I originally thought that none of these would be of interest here because they are all available in the archive here on MoHPC.

Please contact me if you are interested in these. I can send them out by Media Mail.
