Casio manual help, please - Matt Agajanian - 11-04-2022 07:29 PM

Hi all. I keep entering fx-991EX Plus 2 in the search bar and select scientific non-programmable in the search areas on Casio's website site for this model and I don't get results. I've even tried searching the internet for it using fx-991EX Plus 2 as a search text. Could someone post the links for the manual and quick reference, please.

Thank you

That is not a valid model number. Here are two models that you may be looking for.

BTW there is fx-991ES plus C 2nd Edition and fx-991ES plus 2nd Edition (without C). Check them.

Not sure where my info and model numbers got twisted around. Thanks for the links & clarification. Seems like my eyes got twisted around and I mixed up ES Plus 2 with EX and came up with the mishmash.

So, is this the top-of-the-line non-graphic scientific model? What's the different from the C model?

Well there is a fx-991CW coming out. Similar to the EX but with a slightly different user interface, including a grey-scale display.

For the ES Plus 2nd edition, I think the ES Plus C 2nd edition is just the Canadian variant.

But perhaps you meant the fx-991CEX?

Sounds like it’ll be an interesting model. Any idea when it’ll be available?

Well sort of. I agree with Dave Britton in your other thread that "The top-of-the-line non-graphing model would be the fx-5800P, but if you're looking for something you can walk into a store and buy in North America, then the fx-991EX is the current flagship."

In other words you can go to almost any Target or Walmart department store in the U.S. today, pick up a fx-991EX off the display hanger, pay $20 and walk out with one. Some of the other variations of the 991 style calculator may have slightly more features, but they may not have English menus or may be difficult to get in the U.S even online.

The programmable (but non-graphing) Casio fx-5800P is available on Amazon (currently for $89) and is worth taking a look at. Being programmable, I think it is in a different class though.

But if you are considering the fx-5800P, you might also look at the Casio Fx-9750GIII. It is a graphing model with USB connectivity but you don't have to use the graphing functions. It is programmable in Casio Basic and MicroPython. You can also install KhiCAS giving it a CAS that is similar to the one in the HP Prime (same Xcas engine). They used to be available in the U.S new for around US$40 (or $30 on eBay) but have gone up to around $59 recently (or $39 renewed). For around $80 you can get the very similar color fx-CG50. I know, where does it end.

Hi all

Well, after I saw this post a few minutes ago, before Dave’s reply, I realized that I bought the 991ES earlier today. So, after seeing Dave’s post and realizing my goof, I just bought the 991EX. Perhaps by downloading the manual, I’ll be able to see the differences between the two.

And yes, I caught the differences. Distribution functions highlight the EX’s extra features. Looks like I'll be getting two early birthday presents on Sunday. And, even better, it’s a Class Wiz model! How cool is that?!

...

My quick first impressions of the fx-991CW:
I like the four-level LCD.
I don’t much care for the keyboard layout or round keys.
This model trades a simplified keyboard for a *lot* of menus.
I was excited at first by the two formulas you could define (almost formula programmability) until I found out they were deleted when you pressed the On button.

Here is the User Guide (English).

A brief comparison.

Steve, that Quora thread is quite helpful. Thanks.

It will depend where you live. When the fx-991EX came out, the international model took a while to reach all regions (and some places had regional variants). I ordered one from India about 6 months before it was sold in Europe.

It looks like the fx-991CW may be currently available in Indonesia, Thailand, The Phillipines, and Turkey (and maybe some other places).

The fx-991ES Plus C 2nd edition's Manual (105 pages): https://support.casio.com/storage/en/manual/pdf/EN/004/fx-115ESPLUS_991ESPLUSC_EN.pdf

The fx-991ES Plus 2nd edition's Manual (84 pages only): https://support.casio.com/storage/en/manual/pdf/EN/004/fx-570ESPLUS_991ESPLUS_EN.pdf

The C(anadian(?)) version has three additional features:
Inequality solution (INEQ)
Verify a calculation (VERIF)
Distribution Calculations (DIST)

And minor upgrades: Product, GCD, LCM, Integer (two type), Remainder, Recurring decimal, Prime factorization, Previous Ansver (PreAns), TABLE with two functions, etc...

Unfortunately there is no QR code.

Sounds good. The 991EX (and ES) are already on their way to my hands. Unless the CW has a different function set than those models, it seems I won’t be missing out on anything.

While we’re on the subject, what are the differences between the ES and EX models I ordered?

I forgot that the fx-991ES Plus C is the Canadian variant of the fx-115ES Plus.

The way Casio use 115 and 991 has always been confusing!

Thanks for the manual links. 115 or 991?? Confusing indeed.
