TI-36X Integral help, please - Matt Agajanian - 11-15-2022 05:07 AM

Hi all.

I go into Table
define f(x) as 3/sqrt(1-x^2)
hit Integral
lower limit=-0.5
upper limit=0.5
in the integrand box, I press Table 1 ( f( x ) [without spaces, of course]
ENTER

Immediately I get MEMORY LIMIT Error.

How could I set this up correctly so I can just put f(x) as the integrand and have it evaluated?

I did it with a TI-30X Pro which has near to 100% the same functionality:
Integral - Lower limit -0.5 - upper limit 0.5 - function: 3/SQRT(1-x²): Nearly immediately gives as result 3.141592654.
Why did you press table 1?

RE: TI-36X Integral help, please - Steve Simpkin - 11-15-2022 08:41 AM

Matt was trying to use the Table formula f(x) to store the equation and then use it as an input in the numeric integral function. This method works ok when using f(x) on the Home Screen entry line but does not seem to work when as used for an input to the numeric integral function.

If I understand you correctly, inputting table choice 2, f( into the integral on the calculating screen where you then complete the f( with f(x) should work!

That would be table choice 1:f( on TI-36X Pro or TI-30X Pro MultiView, and table choice 2:f( on TI-30X Pro MathPrint.

I have tried the integral with the defined f(x) on all three models and it worked fine on all of them.

(If it makes any difference, my TI-36X Pro and TI-30X Pro MultiView are both hardware revision B (assuming the letter on the end of the batch number is the hardware revision).)

What would happen on the 36 if you placed the function in table choice 1 instead of 2?

RE: TI-36X Integral help, please - lrdheat - 11-16-2022 04:07 AM

…and then use 2 in calculating scree to put f(x) into the integrand.

So that I understand the process, what are the steps to accomplish what my original post is referring to, what are the steps?

Thanks

I was writing about the MathPrint…no longer have the 36X.

Yeah. I got ya.

RE: TI-36X Integral help, please - Matt Agajanian - 11-16-2022 05:23 PM

Hi all.

I think I discovered the glitch about my OP.

If I enter the expression as √(3/(1-x SQ)), integration cooperates. But, if I use the MathPrint fraction template instead of just /, BOOM! MEMORY ERROR.

I wonder why using the MathPrint fraction template causes the problem.

Anyone know?

I was defining f(x) with the normal division operator rather than with the fraction bar, and I didn't get the MEMORY LIMIT error. I do get the MEMORY LIMIT error when defining f(x) with the fraction bar. I don't know why it should make a difference, but it does on the older model. I guess that is one more bug they fixed during development of the MathPrint model.

I’m considering the 30X MathPrint. So, from what you’re saying, the 30X has the fixed division template so I don’t need to use the / operator. Right?

Correct. As shown in Csaba's video, the TI-30X Pro MathPrint handles the integral fine with f(x) defined using the fraction template.

Looking forward to checking out the CASIO fx-991CW. It is an updated 991EX, faster, uses a smaller epsilon in derivatives, integrals, and solve if I understand the specifications correctly. It was listed for October, but seems only available in Southeast Asia at this time…

Looked at a JPEG. Amusing layout. Quite genius. It’s excellent that most used utilities are keyboard accessible instead of hidden in menus. The dark circular keys are reminiscent of the 70s look of calculators.

Curious thing. The TI-30X is available as an import. So, why can’t we order this as an import even though it’s an overseas product?

I used the fraction bar for the problem above and it worked for:

TI-30X Pro MathPrint (date code L-0122C)

But not for:

TI-36X Pro (date code L-0421E, gray arithmetic keys with white font)
