Casio fx-9860G slim advice - CR Haeger - 08-04-2014 01:55 PM

Hello,

I have recently acquired a Casio fx-9860G slim calculator. Although its great right out of the box, Id like to bring its OS up to date and install useful add-ins.

I believe there were several users of this device on these forums that discussed the OS 1.11 vs 2.0 and RPN add ins. If you could point me towards where these could be viewed/downloaded, I would appreciate it.

As to the OS, Add in site(s) - this appears to be the Casio one, after you click yes to terms. http://edu.casio.com/support/en/agreement.html#2

Hi. You'll find my (rather primitive) RPN calculator add-in here.
I haven't looked at it for a long time! There was also one from Hugh Steers, called Reckon: you'll find it here. Reckon is a far more capable calculator.

I vaguely remember that upgrading to OS 2.0 slowed down some BASIC programs by about 50%. But it did fix some bugs and add some new features; I'm afraid I can't remember what these were! My machine has long been upgraded to 2.0 without any regrets.

Nigel - thank you for the quick and helpful response! I did find earlier posts by yourself, Hugh Steers and others circa 2008-10 on this topic, but didn't know if anything new came out. Thank you and I will look at the links you posted.

Casio (US) tech service states that OS ver 1.11 is the "latest" for the fx-9860G slim. Should I believe them or should I search for a 2.x version or just apply one of the other 2.x versions now available for the fx9860GII sisters units?

That's correct version 2.0 was only briefly available for download. While it has more functionality it is a bit slower. You can't install the other 2.x versions on the Slim, I've tried the update program won't let you do it.

Absolutely correct - version 2.x for the Slim is not available anywhere. I spent an hour or so yesterday hunting for it without any luck, no one seems to have it anywhere and all the links pointing to alternative sources no longer work. I did try some of the other 2.x versions for fx9860G (AU, II models etc.) and they were not compatible or at least accepted via the FA-124 software.

Follow the steps below to download OS 2.0 from the link :

1. Click on the link "fx-9860G Slim OS Ver.2.00 Update.exe".
2. Click on the top right cross after a Chinese dialogue box pops up.
3. Click on the "不安裝" button after another similar Chinese dialogue box pops up.
4. Save the file by clicking on the "Save" button of a browser message box.

Did you manage to use Johnny Shek (Post #8) download link?

Meanwhile I have found this thread from Casiocalc.org where one can also download the OS2 (look to post #10 by pan.gejt) along with specific documentation related to v2.0 features

I am considering to acquire this nice Casio model as well.

Thanks Jose. Actually I used the one from the casio forum. The one here from jonny did not work for me.

It's a pretty interesting machine though slim is a misnomer.

I'm probably the newbiest of all here... but I am able to recognise the great qualities in this Casio package (free SDK, C programming, among others).
However my main interest is about the technology itself, so I'm collecting the specimens that I find will be representative of this great era of portable computing.

Update:
Got it! 40 Euros NIB.
I would need a very strong reason to open it... so far, it is still inside the blister.

I've just acquired one and it is running 1.10.

What are the new features as I can't even find information on that?

I haven't tried it myself yet, but at least you can download the files.
