HP Prime G1 and G2 compatibility? - denodan - 07-09-2023 11:01 PM

Does G1 programs, games, etc work on the G2 also? As there are heaps of apps, but no mention if these worth on either versions

Yes, they do generally, back and fourth. The G2 is faster.

Thanks. Gettng the G1, 1 because over here no G2's and to get one will cost over $100 more than the G1 I can get. So no Brainer, same system, the only plus is the G2 is 3X faster, but thats about all. Both do the same job. the G1 I am getting is from school supply place. Brand new, just no retail packaging, hense schools get them cheaper buying in bulk. Can get the FX 400 classpad 2 or enspire Ti 2, but even the older prime is still faster than either of these and still costs more than $100 more

The G2 has some more features that the G1 doesn't have too, you can change the screen refresh rate on G2 and it can be made to use the USB in/out in your own programs. You can probably read about the differences on this forum.

The G2 also has more RAM etc. If it's just for school things, a G1 will probably be fine.

I would always recommend a G2 to anyone, you can weigh it up on your usage, costs and availability.

For reference, here is a list of the hardware differences between the G1 and G2 models.

“G1 uses a 400 MHz Samsung S3C2416XH-40 (ARM926EJ core, ARMv5 architecture)
G2 uses a 528 MHz NXP i.MX 6ULL MCIMX6Y2 (Cortex A7 core, ARMv7 architecture)

G1 has 32 MB RAM, 256 MB flash
G2 has 256 MB RAM, 512 MB flash

G1 battery: 3.7V/1500mAh/5.55Wh
G2 battery: 3.7V/2000mAh/7.4Wh”

I have just tried something on my G1, that I have been working on with the G2, to load a ~4000 pixel wide png image or part of it from AFiles() to screen, and it is an invalid object on the G1, whereas I can work with it fine on the G2.

Yeah but the G1 is still a better choice than the casio CX400 classpad 2 and TI enspire CX 2, as its still faster and does the same as these two do

Anyway these are all old tech anyway. Seems none are making new hardware. Maybe due to the fact a phone nowdays is faster and can do everything these can and more. The calculator is basically dead tech, which is why Texas, Casio, etc dont produce new models. They are dying tech as nowdays everyone uses phones. Its only a matter of time till they stop producing them. They are certianly not making new models anymore and have not done so for maybe around 10 years or so

Still think getting the G1 at over $100 less is great. Cannot buy the G2 here and if I get the G2 costs over $100 more, something like $130 plus. I am not heavily into programming, and was looking at the ti Enspire 2 and Samsung Gx400 Classpad 2 and even the G1 trumps the speed of these 2, Unlike computers dont see calculators being obsolete as it still does al lthe calculations of these others, but sure slower than the G2, so what, for me no big deal. Its like a car, gets you from A to B the same way and same job as the expensive car, only they have the chance to go faster, but all cars get you there.

So dont see the issue not getting the G2, when I cannot even buy one here. As a matter of fact, now see few outlets for the G2, or if there are not saying if they are G1 or G2. The G1 can still download heaps of games and apps, which I will do anyway, and seems a heap is availed for the HP prime series, yet little for the Casio CX400 classpad. HP and ti seem to be the better systems for downloads
