If you put a Panamatik module in any Woodstock series calculator you get exactly that, alphanumerics on a tiny seven segment LED display. Very neat and perfectly readable! And for microcontrollers like the Arduino there are plenty of libraries available for that purpose. No need to reinvent any wheel!
