In this video we install a newly manufactured LCD into Sharp EL-5100 calculator. The EL-5100, released in 1979, was a groundbreaking programmable calculator for Sharp. It was first to feature the AER algebraic programming and a dot matrix LCD. It is also a very stylish machine. Join us and find out how it all works out.

Someone sent me their dad's old Sharp EL-5100 which was nearly new condition save for the bad LCD. Installed a newly manufactured LCD and brought it back to life. This is a very lovely calculator. Sharp really nailed the aesthetics on this one. I liked it so much I jumped on eBay and found one in good shape in need of an LCD.

Nicely done, Jeff. I like your heat removal technique (vs. the acetone soak).

So cool to see new spare parts for these old machines,
