Newborn WP31S - Shawn Gibson - 09-19-2014 07:49 PM I've finally gotten around to making a WP31S. I painted the front bezel in gloss black spray paint. It sure is a handsome calculator. I think that I should have masked the HP logo for aesthetics. WP31S_newborn by recurve35m, on Flickr RE: Newborn WP31S - walter b - 09-19-2014 08:55 PM Very nicely done. Almost looks like a repurposed 20b now but you know you have the better keyboard under the hood. d:-) RE: Newborn WP31S - James_S - 09-26-2014 09:07 AM Real beauty. I'd definitely got one looking like that to my collection! RE: Newborn WP31S - workspace - 09-26-2014 04:47 PM Very nice! I built a wp34s last year with the help of "the old forum" and Haralds USB programming board. This build here forced me to order another hp30b and the overlay from Eric to build me an wp31s :-) Do I need to solder an XTAL (32Khz) or is there no use for in the WP31S firmware? Thanks and regards Ralf RE: Newborn WP31S - Jonathan Cameron - 09-26-2014 05:37 PM (09-26-2014 04:47 PM)workspace Wrote: Do I need to solder an XTAL (32Khz) or is there no use for in the WP31S firmware? Hi Ralf, THe WP-31s is not programmable and does not have any time-related functions. So you will not need the crystal. That means you can set up a WP-31s without opening it up at all (except for taking the back cover off to access the programming port)! -Jonathan RE: Newborn WP31S - workspace - 09-26-2014 06:09 PM Hi Jonathan, thank you for that information. I leave the case untouched, in opposite to my wp34s which has holes for the USB and the IR, ... should give a nice clean build. Can't wait. ... Shawn RE: Newborn WP31S - workspace - 10-02-2014 07:46 AM Got yesterday the overlays from Eric (very fast from the US, Postcards from Greece took 3Weeks :-) ), the hp30b arrived as well. Need to buy the paint now ... Cheers Ralf RE: Newborn WP31S - workspace - 10-02-2014 06:47 PM sure ... just like my wp34s, but want to try something new :-) ...not that this is really necessary 8-) Cheers Ralf RE: Newborn WP31S - workspace - 10-08-2014 09:00 AM After opened it without scratches - in opposite to my wp34s project, but this time I used an old credit card ... ... I decided not to paint it, because it would have been a lot of fiddling, getting the pcb out, and furthermore I wanted just to use it immediately :-) So here it is, just another newborn WP31S: It is now my "at home" calculator, whereas my WP34S stays at work for doing a lot of hex to bin etc. conversions ;-) Thanks to all opensource minded people out there, making such a project possible!
