New battery for 82161a and 82162a - Marcel - 05-23-2024 04:58 PM Hi! I am very happy to play again with my HP 82161a cassette drive and HP 82162a thermal printer after a battery change. I received yesterday from Amazon the new Sub-c 2000 mAh battery and everything is perfect! Was curious why you thought so. Not challenging the comment at all, just wondering the basis. I've read current day NiCADs have a significantly lower self-discharge rate than NiMH. Does anyone know if that is true? Origianlly (for me, i.e. ~10 years ago) thought NiMH may be a good substitute for a product with diminishing manufacturing quantities; NiCD. Close enough voltage, but would need to consider chargers & overcharging. As time went on I felt just stick with modern day NiCAD until they are no longer available/affordable. Since you mentioned it, wondering what others thought. RE: New battery for 82161a and 82162a - Hiwi - 05-24-2024 07:12 AM Hi, NiCd are more robust, i have 20 years old fully working sub-c cells. They can often be reactivated when fully discharged. NiMh not. Because of the low inner resistance, the self-discharging is greater. Newer Nicd are not better in my experience. The hp charging circuits are very simple and are not optimized for NiMh. I modified my Hp82161 /162 charing circuit for more current, so the time to charge is simmilar to the old Nicd which have only half the capacity. And Nicd have an environmental problem, so I prefer Nimh. Ralf |
