Unit Conversion Prime Set to RPN - Alder Statesman - 05-29-2024 10:48 PM

Hi All,

I am new to my HP Prime but not new to RPN. Wow, the Prime is as different from the 48 series as the 48 was from the 41. If anything, I am enjoying learning the various nuances.

While not rocket science, I often have to do unit conversions. The 48GX series was marvelous at this. I spent a few frustrating hours figuring out how the Prime does unit conversions by first consulting the manual and then searching Youtube. I copied the keystrokes exactly but kept getting error messages. It finally hit me, the manual and the videos all assumed the Primes would be configured for algebraic lnput rather than RPN!

Maybe this old news to forum members. Still i want to contribute to the HP Prime community. I uploaded to YouTube a video showing briefly how unit conversion can be done with RPN. Hardly polished, but here it is: https://youtu.be/HhXvXcDQdN8?si=8yCRROOS4pDOtbms

Thank you for the video. It makes it much easier to understand the unit conversion process used with RPN input mode on the HP Prime.

You might consider using the unit conversion program in the following post. It make the unit conversion process more like how it is done on the HP-48 series.

Units48 v1.0: units the 48 way

That is a cool approach. Thanks for posting with your reply.

No problem Smile

This site features comparison tables and photo galleries for various HP RPN LCD models. Here are some links to information and tutorials on the HP Prime.

The simplest and quickest way to do a unit conversion in prime without installing anything is shown in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pPdvjNQ1gGg
Not sure if you are familiar with it and hope it is useful

I believe that example is with the calculator set to algebraic notation rather than RPN. I just wanted to stay with RPN though the other logic works.

Thanks for posting the alternative.
