Classis calculator hard cases & cardboard boxes - husmus - 09-05-2024 03:27 PM

Can someone tell me which variations of hard cases were used when? Is the dark one (the front one in my picture) the last one before the switch to cardboard boxes? Did the HP35 ever use the light tan one (middle) or only the medium gray one (back)? Just curious. Thanks.

You should find the answers in this article. If not let me know what is missing.

FYI I have a (new in plastic) HP 92169C soft leather case for my Voyagers. That said mine is more black than "burgundy". The "black" one is supposed to have the part number 92169A per your PDF. So either HP changed the part numbers, mine is mis-labelled or HP changed the colours.

Interesting, my source is the HP brochure "A Wealth of Accessories".

Well I had this in my hand as I was posting. The plastic sleeve is open so perhaps substituted. The case looks genuine though.

PS: If you need a larger pic for your PDF I can email one.

HP 92169C soft leather case for Voyagers is burgundy and not black. I own three of these burgundy cases, each out of the original HP labeled plastic bag. This burgundy is very dark, but not yet black.

I've looked at mine in various lighting and it looks (to my aging eyes) "black" to me. Definitely not the "burgundy" as shown in the PDF.

PS: I prefer black anyway so I'm satisfied. BTW I have the original slip cases for all my Voyagers. After 40 years of use the 1980's ones are a bit "rough". The HP-15C CE and HP-12C+ ones are unused.

I would prefer black, too. But i did not find any source for the black HP 92169A leather case. After all, I was able to buy three burgundy-colored bags on eBay. It's amazing, they still smell of leather after so many years in their original packaging and are in pristine condition. My Voyagers have also each its original case, but one of my 10C cases is totally damaged. So i replaced it with the leather case.

Back in the day, the Black leather cases wildly outsold the Brown and it way outsold the Burgundy, so it's no surprise we see very few of the Black ones still NIP. While I too like the Black best, the others are still far nicer than the leather "look" vinyl cases that came with machines, so I have some of all 3 colors of all 4 types (Voyager, Pioneer, Champion (clamshell) and IR "Whistle" printers (these last ones look mighty odd when there is printer in them...)

I've looked at my HP 92169C soft leather case again in bright sunlight and Uwe-001 is correct. It is a very dark burgundy and not black.

According to

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burgundy_(color)

it is more "Old burgundy" vs the "Vivid burgundy" shown in the document made by Didier Lachieze.

I can only assume that HP changed the colour at some point but kept the same part number. Dark enough for me.
