82164A vs PIL-BOX - dbrothers - 09-06-2024 02:14 AM I’ve raised my hand in the PIL-BOX availability thread, wanting one of the new ones when it’s available. Meanwhilst, I’ve acquired an 82164A RS232 interface. I keep seeing “use the PIL-BOX to transfer stuff to your HP71B”. Is there any equivalent methodology using the 82164A? RE: 82164A vs PIL-BOX - Dave Frederickson - 09-06-2024 03:43 AM Yes, but it's more complicated. Here's some info to start with. http://www.hpmuseum.net/document.php?hwfile=5761 You'll probably want an RS-232-to-USB converter so you can use ILPer and it's variants. In a former life, I achieved a modicum of fame by writing and publishing (for free) the first Macintosh telecommunications program (had to crack open my Mac and trace the circuitry to do it - there’s enough information in the 82164A manual so I wouldn’t have to do that again). Anyway, I was more interested in easily transferring binary files, like LEX files or whatever. RE: 82164A vs PIL-BOX - Craig Bladow - 09-06-2024 11:54 PM I've no experience with transferring files to a 71B using an 82164A but have done it with an HP-41C with an Extended I/O module. There is a way to transfer a raw file in hex ascii format between the calculator and the PC with this setup. |
