HP-15C_XE - AnnoyedOne - 10-05-2024 02:00 PM

For those of us that use emulators and not simulators and have a HP-15C CE (in 15.2 mode) I found this

Very nice. It is a modified .exe that makes the free genuine HP PC HP-15C emulator from November 2012 operate in 15.2 mode (192 registers) as well.

Thanks to J-F Garnier!

PS: This HP-15C emulator will work in Windows 2000 SP4 and up.

You're welcome !

I'm using this HP 15C emulator regularly, in the 192-reg configuration of course.
Key features are: exact 15C function replication and speed (for an emulator of course).

This is also the opportunity for me to document how to toggle the digit separator (for us European users), using both the keyboard and the mouse:
turn the HP-15C off,
press and hold down the '.' key on the keyboard,
double click on ON,
release the '.' key.

We can start the test sequences in the same way, but it's almost useless.

Thanks for the tip!

I have the HP-15C (LE) emulator, the HP-12C+ one, and the HP-12C Platinum as well. I never could figure out how to make this work on the Platinum one but work it did! Undocumented!

PS: On the HP-12C Platinum PC emulator I was able to get the test menu (1.L 2.C 3.H 4.Cpu) by holding down

<tab> (g), <Enter> (ENTER), and double-clicking the mouse on ON. That took some dexterity! And the options work!

PPS: I should add that the PC keyboard to calculator keyboard mapping is both undocumented and non-obvious. I've figured it out (manually) for the HP-12C Platinum emulator but not the other two. The former is somewhat different.

So far I've managed to map all (except R/S and f) HP-15C keys to the PC ones. Weirdly ESC is mapped to ON. Many others are also "weird".

I think the mappings are in the .skin (text) files of the emulator.

That doesn't seem too odd to me. The C47 emulator uses the same (although there the key is EXIT), amongst others.

The ON key being a way to back out of things, like Escape. Although perhaps less linked to the 15C, it's true.

FYI the R/S key has the same mapping (in the .skin file) as EEX ('u'). The f key is mapped to Shift in the same file but doesn't seem to work.

I'll likely change those two mappings (edit the .skin file) so the PC keyboard can be fully utilised.

As for ESC = ON I don't care. The HP-12C Platinum emulator doesn't have anything mapped for ON. I tried ESC.

PS: I've modified the .skin file to map 'h' to R/S and 'f' to f.

FWIW, Nonpareil (https://nonpareil.brouhaha.com/) includes a patched HP 15C ROM with 192 registers and everything else to run that ROM with a UI. Kudos to the author, we'll never lose the ability to use a HP 15C/12C/16C as they were originally.
