Another HP41CV...with tall keys - isanchez - 11-25-2014 12:27 PM

Hi,

a couple of years ago I posted some photos of my HP41CV with tall keys...at that moment there was an interesting debate about the possibility it was a fake or such a recycled calculator from 41C parts, or maybe they were sold new by HP wih tall keys...it was s.n. 2103A10255

The thing is that today I have recieved another HP41CV with tall keys, and only five s.n. younger 2103A10260...pristine, like new. It comes from a single owner, bought new...

I can post some pictures if you're interested. I belive that in some time this calculators were sold new with tall keys...

Just wanted to share my found.

Best regards to all of you.

Ignacio

I don't recall the 'tall keys' variation at all. I presume the key board keys were taller somewhat ?

Did the 82200 touchpad still fit ?

(wow, there is so much I never knew or have forgotten about 41s)

The original type keys (early production 41Cs, maybe thru mid-1980) with a steeper-sloped front face (Alpha labels) were called 'Tall Key' versions, since, not surprisingly, the keys were in fact a bit taller. All later production 41C/CV/CX models used keys with a lower sloped front face, making the Alpha characters easier to see.

The height difference is slight and both styles worked fine (or not, depending on your taste) with the touchpad installed.

Thanx for that.

Considering the marketing promos HP did regarding injection molding the plastic for the key legends so they would never wear off, doing the 41 keys over had to be a costly thing for them. They didn't have CNC tooling for making molds back then. Ouch. Somebody had to whittle them ??

(LOL)
