Free 42s on Iphone - vk6ti - 01-04-2015 08:25 AM

After reading on this forum on the 42S emulator, I decided to download it, and must say I am most happy with it, I would have even paid for it. Saves you scampering for one on the HP's dotted around the office or at workplace.

I downloaded the HP25C emulator for the iPhone,
thought it was OK as a novelty as I preferred this to the default one on phone,
HOWEVER
when I gave a demo to someone showing the ease of RPN, to my embarrassment it didn't work. It seemed that I had to press enter to lift the stack for the next input
eg
2.3 (enter) 2.3 (x) 0.23 (x) = 0.529 ( correct answer 1.216'ish)
basic calculation I know, however it did catch me out.
Then again what do you expect for freeware, I guess I am still grate full for the effort someone put in to create it.

Why did you call this 'Free42s on the iPhone' when your problem is with the HP25C emulator?

I don't have a problem with any of them, just saying how happy I was with the free 4
2S

I wore out (4) physical HP42S throughout the years. Just got an iPhone and downloaded the Free42. I love it! Everything the original one was/is, plus I/O!

This one?

Free42 By Thomas Okken

If you want to pay for one, this alleged "iPhone port" of the above exists - a curious description given the free one is already for the iPhone:

42s RPN Calculator By Byron Foster

Also:

HP 42S Scientific Calculator By LIU CHAO

and

42S Scientific Calculator By CHEN JIELONG

Free42S is certainly a wonderful calculator & much more precise than the original physical calculator.

If you want a real emulation, with the original precision, go42S does the job. Negatives are you have to supply your own ROM & pay for the application.

Byron Foster's iPhone port fully acknowledges Thomas Okken's version on which it's built, but it adds some nice features like extending the LCD beyond 2 rows.

I've always been delighted with the free version, so have never got around to getting the paid one. I donated to Thomas, so I guess I've paid anyway.

That said, my new year's resolution is to wean myself off the 42S and onto the WP 34S. So my real 42S is back in its box with its manual. But there's a problem - I can't get to grips with matrices on the 34S and the Free42S app is getting me through my working day. I am weak Smile

Byron's port of Free42 gets a prominent position on the first page of all my iDevices. Its well worth the $4.99 for the extra features.

There is one nagging "feature" that he added. Pressing CLx multiple times has is the effect as pressing DROP several times.
