Cubic and Quartic Formulae - LCieParagon - 02-21-2015 04:18 AM

Hello everyone.

I was just curious if an App exists to find exact values for a cubic and quartic polynomial rather than decimal approximations. I know Maple can provide exact answers, but I've yet to see a calculator do this.

Thanks.

There was a discussion a while ago...

I mean the solutions are right here:

?!? – cubic functions are solved by calculators at least since the 67/97 era of the Seventies. Including real as well as complex solutions. There are several ways to solve such equations, the formulas are well know for centuries. Please take a look at Wikipedia on roots of cubic functions.

OK – solving quartic functions is a different story. ;-)

The calculator only provides numerical approximations and not exact answers. I would like a calculator to provide an exact solution. I can calculate it myself using the formulae.

Actually not that different either - see JM Baillard's program at"
