USB Microscope - Dave Frederickson - 03-17-2015 04:58 PM

While working on the experimental FRAM71 1MByte feature it occurred to me that a USB microscope would have been very helpful with the soldering. There are many on eBay for around $20USD and ones on Amazon for around $40USD. Can anyone recommend one?

Thanks,
Dave

I will send you Richard Nelson's extensive documents on these tonite. Got one for my wife to use at school (HS Biology Teacher) based on his advice, been very happy with it. Just don't recall the brand/model etc. Interesting thing is there are some quite good ones at about the same prices as some junk ones, the good news is Richard figured out (and documented) which was which.

I would be interested in seeing this information as well.

Why not just post it openly for anybody to read as so many are interested?

Regards
Max

+1 there!

RE: USB Microscope - rprosperi - 03-22-2015 02:53 PM

As there is so much interest, I asked Richard if it's OK to post here for all. He agreed and is collecting a series of articles he has written on 'scopes and will send it early next week. Seems there are several GB of articles (!!!) so once I get them, I'll host them in some cloud account and post links here. Probably a couple more days. Hang in there, they are typical of Richard's thorough and informative style.

Thank you Bob for setting this up for us!

USB Microscope Articles - rprosperi - 03-23-2015 11:59 PM

As this topic seems to be of high interest, Richard Nelson (known best to most of you as the Founder/Editor of PPC and CHHU, and more recently, editor of the HP Solve Newsletter) agreed to share his many articles related to Microscopes, including comparisons, theory, building accessories, and even just cool stuff to look at.

My wife is a Biology teacher and when Richard mentioned writing one of these articles about picking a USB 'scope, I got a copy and shared it with her and that lead to picking a great little scope which she uses in the classroom.

There are 35 articles in all, grouped into 6 ZIP files. Rather than wasting time trying to organize or somehow classify them, I suggest you just get a copy of all of them.

* Microscope Article Set #1

* Microscope Article Set #2

* Microscope Article Set #3

* Microscope Article Set #4

* Microscope Article Set #5

* Microscope Article Set #6

Hope you enjoy them, I sure did (actually haven't seen them all yet).
