Shift Keys not working HP 49G - sad_hp - 04-07-2015 06:49 PM What a sad day! MyHP48G is no longer working at all, and my 49G is acting weird. All the buttons work except RightShift. LeftShift and Alpha. Is there anything that I am missing or is there a way to repair this? Help, I've only got a 48GX left after this! ( I have been saving it for the Apocalypse) RE: Shift Keys not working HP 49G - Han - 04-08-2015 10:50 AM Have you tried to see if pressing on the bezel near the bottom of the screen while pressing the shift keys on your HP48 "reactivates" those keys? RE: Shift Keys not working HP 49G - sad_hp - 04-08-2015 12:55 PM Awesome! I knew someone here would have asuggestion. I pushed on the bezel and can now access my shift keys. I guess this probably points to a loose connection or something, but this is good enough for now. I don't need the advanced menus very often, but now I can get to logs and shut it off when I am done. Thank you so much! RE: Shift Keys not working HP 49G - BartDB - 04-08-2015 01:58 PM (04-08-2015 12:55 PM)sad_hp Wrote: Awesome! I knew someone here would have asuggestion. The problem then is that there is a rubber support inside pushing the keyboard connector flex onto the PCB, this rubber tends to deteriorate. Here is a thread that discusses the problem: http://www.hpmuseum.org/cgi-sys/cgiwrap/hpmuseum/archv019.cgi?read=151696 If you have a wish to try to repair it: here is a guide to opening: http://users.ju.edu/hduong/open/ and for repairing: http://users.ju.edu/hduong/repair/ (about halfway down see "keyboard connector" and "Rubber Under Keyboard Contacts" which is the bit that has to be replaced). (Note: the SX shown in the links above is physically the same as the GX) Someone's temporary fix without opening the calculator: http://h30499.www3.hp.com/hpeb/attachments/hpeb/bsc-408/13673/1/HP42S.jpg (At least the programs can be saved before dis-assembly). Best regards. RE: Shift Keys not working HP 49G - W_Max - 04-08-2015 02:36 PM Opening old Singapore machines, using this technique, are VERY difficult. My 48sx from 91 refused to opening, even when I apply force, comparable to crack thing out So, I remove metal overlay, and then drill those latches. Metal overlay in one place (near screen) was glued so tightly, that even hot hair-dryer flow cannot help - only thin knife helps. And even after that I get some little "waves" on the metal overlay under the screen. But, anyway, It works now! |
