RE: SwissMicros DM-41 - hpnut - 05-10-2015 01:40 PM

i know michael has put the instructions for firmware upgrade at his website. however, i cant't get beyond the 3rd step, i.e. how to select device LPC1115/303 ?

1. get the SwissMicros Firmware Update Tool as an EXE or zipped or get FlashMagic
2. install CP2102 driver under Windows, get it from here or here
3. select device LPC1115/303 (or LPC1114/301 for calculators sold before June 2012)
4. choose correct COM port
5. set baud rate to 115200 or lower
6. select interface: none (ISP)
7. Oscillator (MHz): 12
8. check 'Erase all Flash+Code Rd Prot'
in the menu bar at the top of the FlashMagic screen, under "Options->Advanced Options->Hardware Config" check the box in front of "Use DTR and RTS to control RST and ISP pin"
9. connect the calculator with a standard miniUSB cable, preferably a shielded one. The calculator may be turned on or off before flashing
push and hold the PGM button through the right-hand pinhole on the backside with a needle and press Start to flash the firmware. the PGM button may be released after flashing has started
after flashing is done, push the RESET button through the left-hand pinhole on the backside

I would appreciate it very much if some one could guide me thru the firmware upgrade process.

Thanks!

hpnut

Forget about flashmagic and use swissmicros' tool - you won't need anything past step 2. You may only need to change com port number - most probably 3 or 4 will do the trick and be ready to stick a paperclip into reset hole at the bottom when prompted. The above instructions are a bit misleading.
Cheers,

A blue key?!? o.O

Let's go on playing Smile

Reading this post I was expecting a miniature of the Hp41 calculator.......... vertically oriented......actually I'm just a bit confused and disappointed Smile

Nice to have, but not (yet?) the same thing.

It will never be the same thing because of the keyboard. The original's keyboard is yet to be beaten and most probably never will be. I strongly doubt SwissMicros had that goal in mind.

Cheers,

It will never be the same. One can never hookup barcode wand, IL drive and other gizmos to this little thing.

Of course you're right, but I've been said that they are working - at least - on some sort of buttons for the keyboard.

I think that's beyond the scope of this calculator... :)

And what about a DM-42 ? Smile

RE: SwissMicros DM-41 - hpnut - 05-13-2015 03:25 PM

I want a DM-17bii. Great menu driven financial calculator

Maybe just adding the capability of using the I/R 82240 printer would have been the icing on the cake we all crave ??

Hello,

I´ve got my DM-41 before a few weeks. A great work!

Klaus

But you can still get any of the three models easily... last one is still in production and the other two are quite cheap on ebay (I paid 40 euros for a pristine pionneer unit).

And the keyboard in any of them has nothing (nothing!) to compare with the DM ones...

RE: SwissMicros DM-41 - jimenezdorigo - 08-14-2015 04:02 PM

Has anyone flashed the calculator connected to a Mac OS (Yosemite) ? if so, what is the process ?

the steps on the SwissMicros website are not complete or are difficult to follow

Thanks!

WOW! I am so glad this old thread came back to life. I recall from years ago the DM-12 coming out but it never occurred to me the company would continue to work and come out with the DM-41.

Have people found any bugs in these? How has the reliability been?

I have toyed with the idea of having vintage calculator repair building me a HP41 CL. Even though these two things are totally different animals, the DM-41 would be great for portability and not so rare that you'd be crushed if it were broken or lost. Since it is in production you could buy another.

As far as bugs go, the only thing I've noticed is that the alarm catalog is missing a key mapping. Also, the Swiss Micros website implies that you should be able to change the font on all their models; however, that's not the case for the DM-41.

I don't think anyone would claim that the keyboard is a joy to work with, but, in practice, it doesn't interfere with actually using the calculator. Having said that, I do have one key that needs to be pressed harder to register (kind of like my WP-34s).

It would be interesting to know whether Swiss Micros has any plans to create tools (beyond hex dumps) for loading files externally, perhaps along the lines of what they've done for the DM-15.

RE: SwissMicros DM-41 - HokieKev - 08-17-2015 04:47 AM

Has anyone installed the latest firmware and tested it to see how it is doing?

/DM41_19.hex

Yes.

The release notes on the site are a bit sparse. Are there any known bugs or limitations with the 19 firmware release?
