How to enter spreadsheet formula while in RPN mode? - norlesh - 07-04-2015 03:09 PM

I have tried with and without single quotes to enter a formula in a spreadsheet cell and continually get the always informative 'Error: Syntax Error' when the Home screen is set to RPN input. While with the input set to algebraic it works without error.

Example: set the contents of A1 to 42, then attempt to set A2 using '=A1' [either with or without the quotes]

try 'A1'

That only assigns the current value of A1 instead of linking the cell so the formula can update with changes.

The spreadsheet =formula syntax *is* the equivalent of a 'expression' in rpn. Aka - you are making an algebaric expression. Use the shifted ( ) function to insert ''. Then type your expression inside of the to quote the arguments.

Thanks Tim, sorry rgallier - didn't realize you meant to include the quotes. Your solution did work.
