Using non numeric in Matrix - jacq1960 - 07-23-2015 10:21 PM

Hi All,

I hope someone can help. I am trying to solve a matrix problem with non numerics and I can't work it out. Obviously it will take numbers but if I try to enter "k" it tells me it's an error.

In fact struggling to find a way of doing it caused the Prime to reset and enter Exam mode! Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance
Jacqueline

Hi Jacqueline,

I'm not exactly sure what you are doing wrong but here are some tips:

Make sure you are in the CAS, not Home.

Don't use the matrix writer (shift 4), instead, use the matrix template which you can access with this key: [attachment=2359] then pick the 6th position over on the top row:

[attachment=2360]

Also make sure the variables you are using are not already defined: shift/mem/user variables and shift/mem/cas vars.

If you still can't get it, post a screen shot of your input or cut and paste the input into a reply.

Hi Roadrunner!

Thank a MILLION for your help. It's got to be as obvious as anything that I don't have a clue what I'm doing.

Thanks for your advice - I might actually end up passing the high school maths I failed as a teenager!

Cheers
Jacqueline
