The article itself references 1 September 1981 as the introduction date; however HP Key Notes Volume 5 Number 3 (September-December 1981) page 1 starts with "On September 16, 1981, Hewlett-Packard released two new "slim-line" programmable calculators...."

I guess either way, the celebration is a bit premature :-)
