What is a complete voyager collection? - PANAMATIK - 10-31-2016 12:42 PM Of course it is never complete! But I received my HP-10C for 39 $ today and now I have all of the original voyager models 10C, 11C, 12C, 15C 16C in working condition. I also bought the DM15L and a new 12C version last year. What are the pros and cons for having the 12C platinum and the 15C limited edition? Are there more noticeable models around. And why is there the gap between 12 and 15 ? And why is there the gap between 12 and 15 ?My guess is that 13 is considered an unlucky number and generally to be avoided. Since the programmer's calculator can deal in hexadecimal, it probably seemed more natural to go straight to the 16c. Alan RE: What is a complete voyager collection? - hibiki - 10-31-2016 02:29 PM I think there is no logic in model numbering sequence. It started with 35 (number of buttons), jumped to 45, 55, 65, 70, 80. Returned to 21, 22, 25, 27, 29. Spices follow the 30´s sequence, as Voyagers follow 10´s. There are some foreigners in these sequences (10b, 14b, 17b, 18C, 19B, 32S, 35S, 38G, 39G). Pioneers follow a more strange sequence: 10B, 14B. 20S, 21S, 22S, 27S, 32S, 42S. The suffix letters are worst. Some financial calculators are B (business), other are C (continuous memory), and even E (37E, 38E). The only logic is G (graphic) and S (scientific). If I remember well (and with the calculator poster), some numbers were never used: 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 13, 24, 26, 36, 43, 44, 46, 47, 51, 52, 53, 54, 56, 57, 58, 59 (this 50´s sequence of TI calculators), 60, 62, 63, 64, 66, 68, 69, 72, 73, 74, 76, 77, 78, 79, 81, 82, 83, 84, 86, 87, 88, 89, 90, 93, 94, 96, 98, 99. I have noted that some numbers never used, are TI models: 36, 51, 52, 53, 54, 56, 57, 58, 59, 66, 83, 84, 86, etc. Maybe an agreement to not make mess with the competitors. Some corrections: - There was a HP-94 (three version, D, E, F) - HP-44 was the prototype of the HP-71B (see here ) - HP-46A was a desk calculator, as well as HP-81A Have a look at HP-Collection RE: What is a complete voyager collection? - hibiki - 10-31-2016 03:40 PM (10-31-2016 03:19 PM)HP-Collection Wrote: - There was a HP-94 (three version, D, E, F) I never heard about these models. I thought mine was cheap at anout 100euros. It is in very good conditom though. I defined my voyager collection as complete after acquiring the 10c. I have all the original calculators, a newer cr2032 version of the 12c a 15cle and a dm15 an dm15l. RE: What is a complete voyager collection? - Katie Wasserman - 10-31-2016 03:55 PM Just a reminder that W.A.C Mier-Jedrzejowicz's book "A Guide to HP Handheld Calculators and Computers" is an excellent resource for all questions like these. It tells the whys and wherefores of HP model numbers, code names, etc.. Lots and lots of well-organized detail and trivia. Years ago, this book used to be referred to often in this forum so new members might not know about it. The latest edition that I know of is the 3rd one copyright 2007 (it might be out of print). I got a copy of the "Fifth Edition, HHC 2013 Printing" of Wlodek's book at HHC2013, which was updated to include the then-new HP Prime. It may have been a limited HHC-only release. All collectors simply must have a copy of this excellent resource. In addition to basic facts and history, it's also brimming with Wlodek's wit and wisdom. Get it! Thanks for the reminder Katie. A collection of all the "HP10's" would be a pretty good challenge! RE: What is a complete voyager collection? - PANAMATIK - 10-31-2016 11:57 PM (10-31-2016 03:42 PM)Harald Wrote: Wow. Congratulations on that find! I thought mine was cheap at about 100euros. It is in very good condition though. Indeed the 10C was not too expensive, because the seller offered it as defective, as the LCD digits are partially visible when switched off. But it works and the effect is very minor. I still miss the 15cle and I will only buy it if I can get it for less than 50$. The prices are ridiculous for an imperfect software and 20mA when a button is pressed. The dm15 is too small for my fingers, so this will also not become part of my collection. You don't have a 12C platinum? As you well said, you have to "define" your collection as complete! Also, you forgot the current HP-10BII+, an excellent and feature-rich financial calculator (except possibly the HP-27S, a strong candidate for best HP Algebraic machine ever, IMHO). Because then you recognize that you also need a 17B English, 17B International, 17BII English, 17BII International and a 42S. Or better three 42S, an early one with ROM rev. A, then a rare one with ROM rev. B and finally the most common with rev. C. Further you recognized that then the Mid-Range Pioneers are missing 14B, 22S, 32S, 32SII and the Low-Range Pioneers 10B, 20S and 21S. Oh, I forgot that the 10B, 20S and 32SII are available in two color shemes and that there're 50th Anniversary L. Edition for the 14B and 32S. What about different ROM versions or manufacturing places, so I have 17BII International produced in Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia.
