Hi all,
I recently acquired 2 HP thermal printers (a HP82162A and a HP82143A). I never had any of them printers, so when I got this opportunity I jumped on it. I rebuilt both power packs with Ni-Mh 1.2v/4300mAh, and they work perfectly.
More details are given about that in another thread, here.
Anyways, I noticed that the 82162A printing intensity is always a bit darker and more pronounced than with the 82143A using the exact same settings. No matter the settings.
Is that a problem with the 82143A or is it just the way these are? Not that it really matters, they both print extremely well and everything is very legible.

Two things come to mind:
1). Is this true when you swap paper rolls between the printers to rule out paper variability?
2) if I remember correctly there is a resistor that controls current to the print head. These can be changed to vary intensity. The 97, 95, 92 and 91 printers have the resistor and the portable infrared printers have a variable resistor selectable control.

Hi Geoff,
Yes it is. I swapped the paper roles around. BTW, they are brand new, generic low-cost roles bought from Office Depot.
