Sharp pc-1201 user guide
Well, not HP but a continuous memory with a 128 program fully merged. It's on the way in mint condition but
NO MANUAL. I have searched and searched and cannot find an Internet copy. Does anyone have one or can any one spare their copy while I scan it for posterity and post the results. It will save hacking my way through it, although that would be fun. Nice to have a programmable with the blue florescent display ticking away as a program runs. Geoff sharp pc-1201 |

Geoff,
Nice find! I'm sorry that I can't help you out with a manual, but if you do find one can you please scan it for my website. I'm sure that there are other people that would like to have access to this. -katie |

RE: Sharp pc-1201 user guide
Hi Katie!
Well our little on (Sealyham terrier) has had us on pins and needles for the last 8 weeks. Thank gosh for pet insurance, MRIs, CAT scans, spinal tap, ultrasound, adrenalectomy, anti seizure mess and now she appears back to normal :-) ---------------------------- I went directly to your site and found that it was missing :-( So if I get one, plus there were some application books also, my plan is to scan them and post them and of course I will send them to you for your site. At the moment, it looks in the archives like Hecube has one but his email link through the museum site is not listed, nor can I find any recent postings by him. Also someone who created the HPINSPACE web site has a manual but I cannot find an email address for him/her at the blog. They are so out there but may be made out of unobtainium! Looking forward to hacking my way through it though! Cheers, Geoff |

From this example and this example it looks like its programming model is pretty simple. Labels, unconditional branching, a few comparison tests, and at least one-level subroutine calls. I don't think it has indirect access to memories, but maybe, there seems to be an 's' register not used in these two examples. It should be fun figuring it out! -katie |

RE: Sharp pc-1201 user guide
Yes, found those two and they will be helpful. From previous posts at the museum there appears to be no indirect addressing.
What I like is the limited program steps. Makes you really think about efficient code. It would appear, for my 'suite of aviation related programs' that require 5 storage registers that the other 7 registers can be used for constants. That will make my following programs about the max that I can do: Waypoint load Great circle Intermediate latitude Altitude correction due to low temperatures X-wind only Fuel in tank check These all fit my 34C with 165 lines of programming including the constants like .00198, 273, 360, 15 using up lines of code. By storing these, some of which are used more then once I should be able to squeeze it down to 128. Might have to drop the waypoint load and manually convert the DMS to decimal and store them. Will be fun to take to work along with the 34c Geoff |

That's what I like too about programming old calculators (up to and including the 32sii but excluding the 41c). The challenge of programming in limited space with limited instructions is really enjoyable. I like this too even on modern machines, but there the constraints shift from limited memory and instructions to limited time and/or other real-world constraints. Professionally I often have to program in archaic languages with limited capabilities, that too is fun! -katie |

Jeff,
I sold Mike Sebastian at calcinfo.com my 1201c with manual several years ago. You might see if he still has it. It was a neat machine. |

HeathKit Navigation calculator and all accessories, nice! I have quite a few nav/aviation calcs.
Thanks IPad auto correct and confirmation bias! :-) |

Hi,
I've just sent Katie a crude scan of the PC-1201 Instruction Manual, so hopefully it'll appear on her site soon. Regards Andrew |

It's a smaller unit than I was expecting, and very nice indeed.
Bit of a shame that there's no external interface, but you can't have everything. I also have the Application Manual, which I can scan if anyone is interested. Regards Andrew |

I have (crudely, with photos) scanned the PC-1201 User Manual and Applications Manual and both
are on archive.org. Katie also has the User Manual on her site. Regards Andrew |

Electronic Design, V26, NO5, 1978⁄03⁄01, page 47 of Focus on Scientific Calculators has the program listing, solving series-resonant circuit problems, for the PC-1201.

I have a PC-1200 without any docs, until today it was just a nice but "passive" item in my small collection. Your scans gave me the right impulse to get a closer look, at long last. Turns out the PC-1200 and PC-1201 models are the same (except for some minor details in power supply) and your scans are all I need to play with my PC-1200 to its full extent. Thanks again! |
