RE: HP97 The journey begins
I just tracked down the reason.
The day of week calculation in the PIC code is the one used in HP-65 Standard Pac 1, then 1 is added to the result. This is because the clock chip uses 1=Sunday. On the next release, I will make sure when displaying the day, that 1 is subtracted. cheers Tony |

RE: HP97 The journey begins
Wow Tony. This whole journey is a fascinating read, and like many others I am very impressed.
With all you have done here, I wonder if you might consider designing and releasing a Bluetooth / USB I/O module for the 41C? it would mimic the card reader and / or printer? Seems like it would be a very easy project for you. I'd certainly buy. Please pardon me if it has already been done, and I just haven’t found it in the forums. Thanks. |

RE: HP97 The journey begins
The HP41 already has the HP41CL FPGA cpu board replacement.
It will be more interesting to build a red LED version of HP41 . The screen candidate will be HPDL1414 which is a alphanumeric LED module. And Tony is very busy on the other project. Here is another project in my wishlist which is the HP 01. Below link is the video which shows project to use the HPDL1414 to make and LED watch. https://b23.tv/nSaXMLw https://b23.tv/rGWbZjB Scott HP35 HP45 HP55 HP65 HP67 HP21 HP25 HP29C HP19C HP97 HP10C HP11C HP12C HP15C HP16C HP31E HP32E HP33E HP33C HP34C HP37E HP38E HP38C HP41 |

I just spent the day chasing these down, mostly just a flag not set properly, and have uploaded again. I am going to stop new stuff for awhile until everything settles down. cheers Tony |

RE: HP97 The journey begins
Great job Tony.
I just flash the v13 for 97 and v27 for 67. As the 67 and 97 are a matched set. Is it possbile that 67 and 97 could transfer program and data through bluetooth directly? I know this could be done by the card reader. But through bluetooth will be a great feature. Hi all,
I got my new tactile Spice keyboard inserts today. I haven't tried them because the CPU board is not ready yet, I'm just finalizing the design. cheers Tony |

RE: HP97 The journey begins
I'm the proud owner of both the HP67C and 97C boards, and one of my goals was to be able to share programs, or blocks of programs between calculators via my PC, since my My HP97C has no card reader. I've read Tony's thorough documentation about both these boards, and his software packages (CCE = emulator and CalCom = Bluetooth PC communication). I've summarized what I've learned in the attached 'Teenix Cheatsheet'. Please feel free to look at this and to comment as needed. I'm sure it contains some mistakes.
BTW, now I CAN save, edit and share programs between these 2 machines. A long-term goal would be for all of US to share programs with each other directly, not just the program listings that need to be typed in by hand. Best Regards, Dave |

RE: HP97 The journey begins
As the HP67C and HP97C user ,I totally agree with you.
And I also wish to add an function that the HP41 program can transfer from PC to HP67C or HP97C then read by HP41 card reader. This is an indirectly way to transfer HP41 program from PC to a real HP41. RE: HP97 The journey begins
Couple comments on the HP41 and using HP 67 programs on a 41. This is probably a repetition of other posts on this site, but it's my personal experience.
1) I've repaired and sold a few HP 41s and the 41 card reader. The HP41 series continued the HP trend that started with the spice series to "cheap out" on manufacture and assembly. The assembly required no soldering or gold plated pins. Just flexible circuit boards with bare spots pressed against each other for contact. Sometimes just cleaning these contacts will restore a 41, sometimes not. Not surprisingly, NiCd battery corrosion was also a problem. If it was bad, the flexible PCB could be beyond rescue. This PCB connected the 4 module ports and the battery contacts. There are folks who sell replacement flexible PCBs for the 41. 2) The card reader was designed to save and load programs for the 41, and added circuitry to read and translate HP67/97 programs to execute in the 41. The translation ROMs are built into the card reader. There's not a 1:1 equivalency for all the 67/97 functions, so new 41 instruction are added to make the 41 operate 'like' a 67/97. The 41 display will tell you when the translation is taking place, and when it's complete. This is a 'one way street'. You can't edit the program on the 41 and save it to a card to run on a 67/97. Won't work. I assume that HP built the compatibility for 67/97 programs to ease the transition to the new platform, so users wouldn't have to re-enter their favorite programs. Regards, Dave |

RE: HP97 The journey begins
Hi all,
I just got to the stage of getting the Spice circuit boards fabricated and the semiconductor shortage has taken its toll. I will only have sufficient parts to build a prototype and that's about it. I have just announced on the Teenix web page that the 55, 65, 67 and 97 CPU boards are no longer available until the suppliers have restocked, and sadly this may not be until some time next year. Crazy days. cheers Tony |

(05-29-2022 04:55 AM)tangdfx Wrote: Hi, Tony Except for the power supply, the circuit design is similar to the other boards. The main problem is the processor chips. As far as I can tell Microchip cannot manufacture them at the moment and even when they can, design companies snap them up. I cannot see any stock of any of the processors I need available anywhere, even from Microchip's own store. Even if a few are available, stockists know the rarity and the price is crazy. Some other chips are not available either. I can probably find substitutes but they may not be compatible with the board design or software. cheers Tony |
